We are seeking a highly motivated and results driven **Business Development Manager (BDM)** to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for expanding the customer base and driving revenue growth for our group of companies within Western Canada. This position must be based in Alberta. You will represent our premium-quality service to customers who often view their trucking solutions as commoditized. As a BDM, your challenge will be to persuade potential clients to choose our solution over their current provider, focusing on the value we deliver rather than just price. Success in this role requires strong communication skills, quick thinking, and the ability to negotiate effectively.
**Responsibilities**
**1. Business Development and Customer Acquisition**:
- Identify and thoroughly research potential leads, persistently engage decision-makers, and build genuine rapport to secure their time and attention.
- Master and articulate Wildwood’s value proposition tailored to diverse business needs.
- Convince clients to transition to Wildwood by emphasizing long-term benefits.
- Accurately maintain CRM records throughout the sales and onboarding process.
- Facilitate smooth transitions of new accounts to operational teams.
**2. Account Retention and Expansion**:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients to ensure loyalty, feedback and identify growth opportunities.
- Collaborate with internal teams to address account performance, resolve issues, and grow accounts.
- Monitor account activity to identify risks and strengthen ties with clients.
- Gather and relay competitive intelligence and customer feedback for continuous improvement.
**3. Margin Optimization**:
- Build strong partnerships with clients to ensure transparent communication and shared understanding of pricing strategies.
- Provide insights on transportation cost factors while highlighting the unique value Wildwood delivers to their operations.
- Collaborate on pricing solutions that balance customer satisfaction with long-term business success.
- Regularly evaluate market conditions to identify opportunities for mutual growth and profitability.
**Qualifications & Expertise**
**Required**:
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field.
- Proven track record in sales or business development (transport/logistics preferred)
- 5+ years experience within the transport, logistics, or related industry.
- Experience in negotiating deals and closing sales in a competitive environment.
- Ability to analyze market trends and customer data to develop effective strategies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, CRM software and sales analytics tools.
- Understanding of North American transportation regulations, geography, and transit times.
- Willingness to travel within Canada for client meetings and industry events
**Preferred**:
- Experience in negotiating deals and closing sales in a competitive environment.
- Familiarity with financial concepts (e.g., revenue, margins, $/mile).
- Knowledge of open deck trailer regulations, cargo securement, and customer service processes.
