Emergency preparedness is a critical aspect of CCH operations. It is essential that all staff and physicians receive training and understand their roles and responsibilities in this field.

**Summary of responsibilities**:

The primary role of the Department Coordinator is to support the Acute Medicine with operational activities and quality improvement initiatives.

General Accountabilities:

- Coordinate the operation of Acute Medicine.
- Assist the manager with supervision of the day-to-day operation of Acute Medicine.
- Responds to daily questions regarding scheduling of staff.
- Works with material management to establish inventory and supply quota’s
- Works with decision support to implement and analyze data.
- Follow up with complaints/incidents, and conduct investigations in a timely manner. Escalate to the manager as appropriate.
- Participate in the development and evaluation of short
- and long-term goals and objectives for the department.
- Participate in the development of policies, procedures and processes that are in accordance with best practice and regulatory requirements of Accreditation Canada and other regulatory bodies.
- Understanding the interaction clients have with the department
- Understanding the interaction of the department has with other departments
- Understanding the processes involved in these interactions
- Leading reviews of the process, improving the process and eliminating waste in the process
- Seek seamless integration with all parties in the process
- Perform other duties as required, including, but limited to, in the areas of Patient Safety, Quality and Risk, Communication, and Human Resource

Requirements of the job
- Undergraduate Degree or diploma in Science or Healthcare related discipline
- Minimum of 6 months’ related experience is required
- Ability to critically appraise safety, quality improvement, ethical and clinical issues
- Demonstrated ability to manage numerous and diverse activities, organizing and prioritizing appropriately to meet demands and expectations
- Demonstrated commitment to collaborative practice and lifelong learning
- Demonstrated commitment to patient safety and continuous improvement
- Knowledge of collective agreements and experience working in a unionized environment
- Knowledge of Electronic Health Record (FirstNet, Powerchart, etc..)
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Exceptional communication skills with a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Computer literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- LEAN/CI training

Asset:

- Functional level in oral French
- Previous supervisory/management experience of an inter-professional team in a unionized environment
