Human Resources/payroll Clerk

Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, and working in collaboration with the Human Resources Coordinator (Payroll, Pension and Benefits), this position’s purpose is to provide confidential Human Resources support with a primary focus on processing the Universities payroll. The incumbent will also process pension and benefit information, remittances, analyze data and prepare reports, and provide administrative support for the Human Resources team as well as assist with special projects related to the overall objectives of the Unit as assigned.
**Responsibilities**:
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Processes payroll for salary and hourly employees and residents, reconciles and verifies accuracy of payroll.
- Verifies, maintains, and organizes all payroll information and documentation (i.e., new hires, deductions, salary and position changes, leave processing, contributions, and terminations) for data entry into HRIS and payroll systems.
- Processes and reconciles all remittances and reports pertaining to payroll while adhering to tight deadlines including source deductions, pension plan contributions, records of employment (ROE), and miscellaneous withholdings to appropriate agencies.
- Acts as a plan administrator for pension and benefit plans, provides payroll, pension, and benefits information to employees, conducts payroll orientations, and maintains complete and accurate records.
- Prepares and processes confidential documents/forecasts/reports related to human resource management, employee, and labour relations, hiring, terminations, statistical information, and auditor and finance requests, etc.
- Maintains information integrity and accuracy within HRIS and Payroll systems; assists with the development, testing, and maintenance of an HRIS; maintains accurate HR and employee files.
- Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of current and emerging payroll legislation and issues.
- Assists the Human Resources Team with various special projects directly related to the overall objectives of the Unit.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**:
**Education**:
- Completion of a diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution with Canadian accreditation or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A concentration in Payroll/Finance/Accounting/Administration/Human Resources is an asset.
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation from the National Payroll Institute or working towards/willing to obtain is an asset.
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:
- A minimum of one (1) year of job-related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience working in a unionized environment with Collective Agreements is an asset.
- Experience with Ellucian Colleague is an asset.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel and Word
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with keen attention to detail and accuracy
- Solid organization skills and ability to manage time and deadlines
- Resourceful and customer-service oriented
**Language**:
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)
- French/Indigenous language skills would be considered asset
