**Responsibilities**
- Lead the development of client public affairs strategies that connect programs to organizational goals and objectives
- Develop, coordinate, and execute engagement strategies with public/private stakeholder groups including industry organizations, NGOs, academia, and consumer and advocacy groups to increase client visibility on critical regulatory and policy issues
- Assess the political and policy landscape, as well as potential future political developments, to provide expert advice and devise strategic positioning for clients
- Lead client advocacy on a broad range of issues including coordinating and developing research, thought leadership and such collateral as policy position papers and talking points.
- Design, lead, and interpret qualitative and quantitative research including media landscape and narrative analysis, policy and political landscape reviews, audience profiling and stakeholder and influencer mapping, and competitive business analysis
- Ensure solutions generate a positive impact by involving measurement and evaluation methods and practices
- Contribute to practice, team, and agency revenue goals through organic and new business development
- Develop and participate in individual and agency thought leadership work that helps build profile for our thinking, people and skills within the communications community, client sectors or broader business community
- Commit to continuous learning and improvement of leadership skills. Set and pursue stretch goals.
- Lead, mentor and build a high-performance team by both attracting new talent and retaining our people by creating an environment where talent is encouraged to grow and develop.
**Skills & Experience**
- 10+ years public policy experience in government, consulting, and/or corporate environments, including federal government. Experience in labour, news, technology, or culture policy would be an asset
- Proven track record earning trust and building credibility with government and stakeholder audiences
- Keen interest and understanding of Canada’s political and policy landscape, including legislative and regulatory policy process, specifically at the national level
- Excellent critical thinking and writing skills
- Ability to champion a culture of innovation and continuous improvement by constructively challenging the status quo
- Encourages bold thinking in the face of difficult problems, supports team members in developing critical thinking skills and accepts failures to foster an environment of developing novel solutions to complex problems
- Makes decisions based on evidence and information and takes ownership of these decisions and their impact on client programs and the organization
- Self-motivated, resourceful, flexible, organized, skilled at client service, and attention to detail
- Excellent project management skills.
- Experience leading a team of professionals and a commitment to the growth and development of others.
