**Opportunity**
Pacific Community Resources Society (PCRS) requires a Child and Youth Worker to support the East Vancouver Education program (EVEC) located at the Broadway Youth Resource Centre (BYRC). EVEC is an alternate high school in partnership between PCRS and the Vancouver School Board (VSB) that integrates recreational activities to encourage social and emotional learning, along with academic goal setting. The Child and Youth Worker should have a clear understanding of child development, goal setting, and behavioral intervention strategies to support and encourage student success.
The EVEC Child and Youth Worker will possess a strong ability to provide assessments and behavior management. In addition, teamwork, collaboration, and creativity are key desired assets in this role. The person selected for this role will be part of a multidisciplinary team within the BYRC and will be able to work a flexible schedule that **may include evenings and weekends**.
**Responsibilities**
- Build positive relationships with students, fostering trust and a safe environment.
- Assess and understand the social, emotional, and academic needs of students.
- Develop and implement individualized support plans in collaboration with educators and other professionals.
- Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation support when necessary.
- Facilitate group sessions and workshops focusing on life skills, conflict resolution, and personal development.
- Advocate for students within the school community and liaise with parents/guardians, teachers, and external agencies as needed.
- Monitor and document student progress and behaviors, maintaining accurate records.
- Promote a culture of respect, inclusivity, and diversity among students and staff.
- Participate in team meetings, professional development opportunities, and school-wide initiatives.
**Qualifications**
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, or a related field, plus one year of experience. An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
- Previous experience working with children and youth in educational or community settings with complex needs.
- Strong understanding of adolescent development and trauma-informed care principles.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively, and be adaptable, in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Crisis intervention, behavioural intervention, and conflict resolution skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting young people.
- Criminal Records Check including the vulnerable sector.
**Additional Assets**
- Valid Level 1 First Aid Level will be an asset
- Proven ability to work in an anti-oppression, anti-racist framework.
- Proven ability to facilitate workshops.
- Proven experience working with Indigenous, LGBTQ2SIA+, BIPOC populations of youth.
- Suicide Prevention Training
- Trauma Informed/Resilience training
- Substance use, mental health training
- Class 4 Drivers License for Commercial Vehicles
