**Position Summary**:
The Clinical Manager for the Operating Room is responsible for the human and financial resources of the Operating Room department, while meeting departmental and Hospital strategic priorities. This role will provide strategic development, in collaboration with the Director of Nursing and Chief of Surgery, administer services at the Shouldice Hospital.
**Priorities**:
To work with the Surgical Leadership Team to fulfill our mandate as the Global Leader in abdominal wall hernia surgery.
- To play a critical role in acting as an advocate for safety, and will demonstrate principles, practices and processes that will optimize a safe environment for all.
- In collaboration with the Health Care Team to build a culture that is focused on ensuring best practices and to deliver the highest possible level of patient satisfaction.
- To develop strategies with the Health Care Team to improve clinical processes, optimize timeliness of care and operating room through put.
**Responsibilities**:
Provides leadership in the definition of organizational direction and ensures excellence in patient care and service delivery through continuous quality improvement processes that include planning, quality monitoring and risk avoidance to the patients and the organization.
- Maintain an organizational climate, which promotes staff development, education, achievement, research and professionalism
- Performance review, meet with staff annually to review departmental and individual performance and set professional objectives. Identify performance concerns and develop action plans to correct, and then counsel personnel as necessary, providing guidance regarding roles and responsibilities.
- Ensure a continuous focus on patient experience improvement by developing an open process to respond to patient care issues that includes participation of the whole Health Care Team.
- Maintain close working relations with inpatient care colleagues, as well as other areas of the Hospital, for joint decision making and problem solving.
- Manage human resources, ensure the cost-effective and productive use of resources within the approved staffing budget, scheduling of staff, assessment, and evaluation of staffing requirements.
- Encourage and raise awareness among staff and medical staff to participate in measures promoting fiscal responsibility with respect to resources.
- Focus on appropriate material resources available for the provision of quality patient care and manage these resources within budget/contractual arrangements. Employ formal and informal networks to creatively meet the changing needs and budget targets to ensure the successful operation of the OR.
- Identify capital and operational needs as required.
**Qualifications**:
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required.
- Completed or in the process of completing, a Master degree in Nursing, in Health or Business Management or equivalent.
- 7-10 years’ experience in general nursing, or leadership experience in an OR setting.
- Progressive leadership experience in quality, resource and utilization management.
- Superior financial and statistical management abilities; including the ability to assess, interpret and project operating and capital budgetary needs.
- Ability to function effectively during periods of rapid change and transition.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and electronic documentation and data entry.
- Demonstrates understanding and complies with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.
- Experience in leading professionals through cultural transformations, as well as in gaining staff acceptance and commitment to achieve new standards of skill and service delivery.
