Highlights of the job
We are hiring two (2) Full Time, Permanent **Water & Wastewater Operator** positions working out of Rocky View County, AB.
Under the direction of the Lead Hand and Site Manager the Operator performs the day-to-day operating tasks in including plant & field rounds, laboratory tests, minor maintenance, data entry, trend analysis, trend analysis as well as seasonal distribution and collection rounds and support of capital project work and contractors. The operator also maintains positive relationships and communicates effectively with multiple internal and external stakeholders and members of the public.
What you’d be responsible for
- Ensuring compliance with Alberta legislation as it relates to wastewater treatment, water treatment, water distribution and wastewater collection.
- Operating and troubleshooting the water treatment and wastewater treatment plants, as well as the water and wastewater distribution and collection systems
- Supporting maintenance staff and performing routine maintenance tasks such as: Lubricating, completing operational adjustments, and cleaning equipment; flushing and cleaning of hydrants; and maintaining daily logs
- Ensuring compliance with performance requirements within the operating contract.
- Collecting samples and data for monthly, regulatory, and operational reporting; generating and analyzing reports as required.
- Performing laboratory sampling and making calculation adjustments to process controls to determine chemical feeds, detention times, and hydraulic loading as required for plant operation.
- Participating in the operations’ on-call rotation.
- Assisting with all aspects of water & wastewater treatment, distribution & collection operations as required.
- Demonstrate a high performance, high discipline, safe, accountable, focused, innovative and achievement-oriented, easy to do business with manner of working.
What’s required to be successful
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
- Level 3 certification in Wastewater Treatment is considered an asset.
- Level 2 certification in Water Treatment, Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection.
- Minimum of 5 years of directly related operating experience in water and/or wastewater fields.
- Experience with quality management systems.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and an affinity to learn other software systems as required.
- Ability to qualify for and maintain an EPCOR driver’s permit, which requires a valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's License
- Limited to 6 demerits or less at date of hire (prior infractions for unsafe driving behaviours will be evaluated and considered for non-selection regardless of current demerits on file).
- A Driver Abstract (5 year commercial type) will be required.
- Drivers with a GDL class may be considered (limited to 3 demerits and pending driving behavior review referenced above).
- Ability to withstand strenuous physical activity inherent to the work performed, as well as to function effectively outside under a variety of weather conditions and through all seasons.
- Please note that due to the nature of this position you will be required to wear a ½ mask respirator for extended periods on a daily basis.
