Hickory Dickory Decks North Vancouver is a family owned and operated franchise, specializing in helping customers bring their outdoor living dreams to life. We take care of everything from design, permitting (where required) to finished construction. We install wood, vinyl and composite decks, all forms of railings and accessories (pergolas, seating, privacy screens, etc), as well as stairs and fences.
We are seeking Red Seal Carpenters for residential and commercial deck construction in the Lower Mainland. The carpenter will be responsible for carrying out jobs from demolition through to finishing. Tasks will include demolition of existing decks, layout, install and pouring of concrete footings, substructure and stair construction, though can include installing doors, windows and hardware, erection of scaffolding and more. The carpenter will be expected to work both independently and as part of a team, primarily in outdoor environments of all types and travel frequently to various job sites to perform their work. The carpenter will report to the Project Manager in charge of the job and will be expected to oversee laborers and apprentices.
Every carpenter is expected to hold a morning check in to go over that day’s tasks. Employees are provided with all tools besides common pouch tools and drills and will need their own reliable transportation to get to all job site locations.
Hickory Dickory Decks North Vancouver requires that all employees must be presentable in appearance, act appropriately on all work sites, follow all Work Safe BC regulations, arrive on time, rested and ready to work. All employees are required to have a valid drivers license and vehicle to get to and from work or reliable transit. All employees are required to have steel toe boots and appropriate work wear.
About the Job
Role and Responsibilities
- Read and interpret drawings, sketches and building plans to determine specifications and material requirements
- Measure, cut, shape and assemble or join materials (be it wood, composite or other)
- Build decking foundations per drawings and applicable BC building code requirements
- Fit and install doors, stairs, railings and other hardware
- Assemble and install pergolas, privacy screens and benches
- Manage site safety and cleanliness, alongside lead carpenter
- Overseeing of company apprentices and temporary laborers
- Material takeoffs, accepting deliveries
- Demolition of existing decks when required
Qualifications and Other Requirements:
- Red Seal Certification or equivalent experience
- Clean criminal records check
- Must be able to regularly lift 50 pounds
- Willing and able to work outdoors year-round
- Valid driver's license and clean driver’s abstract
- To provide own Steel toe boots, Hi-vest, Hard hat
- To provide own hand tools (ie. Toolbelt, hammer, framing square, pliers, chalk line, drills etc)
