**Hours**: 35 hours per week

**Wage**: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour

**Job Summary**: This position provides safe, culturally sensitive childminding support to newcomer and refugee children while their parents or caregivers attend workshops, language classes, or access settlement services.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- provide safe, temporary care for children while parents/guardians attend workshops, language classes, or settlement services;
- create a welcoming, inclusive, and culturally sensitive environment that respects the diverse backgrounds of newcomer families;
- plan and lead engaging, age-appropriate activities that promote play, creativity, and social interaction in a short-term childcare setting;
- supervise children consistently, ensuring their safety, well-being, and emotional comfort while parents access services;
- support children in adjusting to new environments, offering comfort and reassurance, especially for those from refugee and immigrant backgrounds;
- promote positive interactions and respectful communication among children, fostering a friendly and cooperative play environment;
- collaborate with program staff and settlement workers to coordinate childcare services during scheduled programs and activities;
- maintain a clean, organized, and safe childcare area, following all health, safety, and hygiene guidelines;
- communicate with parents and caregivers before and after services, providing brief updates on their child’s experience and well-being;
- adapt activities and care approaches to meet the individual needs, cultural practices, and developmental stages of each child; and
- follow organizational policies, licensing requirements, and safety protocols at all times in the childcare setting.

**Job Requirements**:

- early childhood education (ECE) certificate (mandatory);
- demonstrated knowledge of childcare principles, theories, and practices, especially in the context of vulnerable families, newcomers, and refugees;
- current child safe and level 1 first aid certificate (mandatory);
- food safe certification (an asset); and
- Punjabi language skills (speaking and listening) considered an asset.

**Other Attributes and Requirements**:

- valid class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle; and
- clean criminal record check (vulnerable sector).
