**JOB SUMMARY**:
The Communication Specialist and Technical Writer for elected leadership is responsible for ensuring effective internal and external communication, documenting key meetings, and managing messaging for elected officials. This role demands strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to juggle multiple priorities while conveying information and initiatives to various stakeholders, including the administration, public, and media.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- **Strategic Communication Planning**:

- Develop and manage messaging that reflects the elected leader's values, create communication strategies aligned with official goals, and oversee brand management.
- **Minute Taker Duties**:

- Attend and transcribe meetings, prepare materials, distribute accurate minutes, and maintain organized records.
- **Media Relations**:

- Write press releases, coordinate media interactions, and manage crisis communications to maintain the elected official's public image.
- **Public Relations and Community Engagement**:

- Assist in speech content for leadership, organize public events, enhance community engagement, and act as a liaison for community concerns.
- **Social Media Management**:

- Create and manage content for social media, monitor trends, engage with the public, and ensure consistent messaging.
- **Internal Communication**:

- Facilitate communication within the team, ensuring staff are informed about key messages and events, and collaborate with other departments.
- **Assist with digital and print communication**:

- Produce newsletters and manage website content to keep citizens informed.
- **Data and Feedback Analysis**:

- Monitor public opinion and media coverage, assess communication effectiveness, and recommend improvements.

**QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS**:

- Minimum educational requirements, and experience:

- Bachelor’s degree in any of the following would be a great asset: Communications, Public Relations, Political Science, Indigenous Studies, Sociology, or English.
- A minimum of 2-4 years in a communication role, including content creation, editing, and public relations.
- Proven experience as a minute taker in a professional setting.
- Experience with digital communication tools and content management systems would be a definite asset.
- Must have a high-level of understanding or experience working with a First Nation community recognizing their views, culture, experiences, language and way of life.
- Skills required:

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) with a typing speed of 65 wpm minimum.
- Familiarity with meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams) and minute-taking tools.
- Persuasive and articulate written and verbal communication skills.
- Possess excellent organizational skills to manage times, workloads, tasks and be able to deliver results in a timely fashion.
- Have strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate, interact and work with individuals and groups.
- Must practice a high level of confidentiality in all dealings and information acquired in the scope of work set out in this position.
