We are seeking a highly experienced Director to lead the Quality and Health & Safety function within our Canadian Operations. This role will be pivotal in ensuring our workforce is protected through safe working conditions, and our manufacturing processes comply with internal and external quality and safety regulations. This individual will work closely with senior leadership, regulatory bodies, and cross-functional teams to maintain high industry standards and minimize operational risks
**MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- **Health & Safety**:
- Develop, implement, and enforce workplace safety programs to ensure the health and safety of all employees in all manufacturing environments including regional centres.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, audits, and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Lead training programs to promote a culture of safety, ensuring all employees are informed of safety protocols, emergency procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Investigate workplace accidents or incidents, ensuring proper documentation and corrective actions are taken to prevent future occurrences.Implement global initiatives as directed to ensure compliance within HOYA.
- **Quality Assurance**:
- Oversee the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and company policies.
- Establish and monitor quality metrics and KPIs to evaluate product and process performance.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) processes to address any quality issues.
- Ensure regular product testing, inspections, and audits are carried out to maintain high-quality standards.
- Implement and oversee optical-specific quality control procedures, ensuring adherence to precise ophthalmic lens specifications and tolerances.
- Manage lens manufacturing quality protocols, including oversight of surfacing, coating, edging, and finishing processes.
- Establish and maintain calibration and preventive maintenance schedules for optical manufacturing equipment, verifying compliance with technical and quality standards.
- Monitor optical lab cleanliness and environmental controls to prevent contamination and maintain high-quality lens production.
- Coordinate closely with production teams to address optical-specific quality issues promptly, ensuring rapid problem-solving and mínimal operational downtime.
- Ensure comprehensive documentation and traceability of all lens production batches, aligning with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Conduct regular training on optical quality standards and inspection techniques for lab technicians and quality inspectors.Analyze lens rejection and rework rates systematically, using data-driven methodologies to identify improvement opportunities in optical manufacturing processes.
- **Compliance**:
- Ensure full compliance with all industry standards and regulatory requirements related to manufacturing operations.
- Develop and enforce policies and procedures to support compliance across all operational areas.
- Manage internal audits and ensure that corrective actions are promptly implemented to address any findings.Coordinate with external auditors and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance and maintain certifications.
- **Leadership and Strategy**:
- Work closely with senior leadership to align regulatory, safety, and quality objectives with overall business goals.
- Stay up-to-date on industry trends, best practices, and technological advancements to improve regulatory affairs, health and safety, and quality management processes.
- Prepare and deliver regular reports on regulatory compliance, safety metrics, quality performance, and any risks or opportunities for improvement.
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement, embedding quality excellence and safety consciousness into the strategic priorities and operational DNA of the optical lab.
- Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for quality and safety in lens manufacturing, aligning quality initiatives with business growth, product innovation, and market competitiveness.
- Proactively identify opportunities for operational excellence by leveraging advanced analytics, industry benchmarking, and emerging technologies to improve optical product quality, reduce defects, and optimize manufacturing efficiency.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, supply chain, and operations teams to integrate quality assurance strategies throughout the product lifecycle, from lens design and material selection to final customer delivery.
**REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS**
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Safety Management, or a related field (Master’s or MBA is preferred).
