We’re looking for a Construction Safety Officer to join our Construction team. You will work directly with Site Supervisors, Project Managers, and Site Operatives and engage in all coordination and administration activities regarding site safety and hazard prevention. You will assess all active construction of ongoing projects in pre-construction, construction, and warranty stages. You will coordinate personnel on all project sites, manage safety documents, incidents, reports, and supplies.

**Key Qualifications**:

- Certified Construction Safety Officer designation
- First Aid Level 3 required
- High school Diploma
- Minimum 5 years CSO experience with 4-6 storey low rise construction and 2-3 level underground
- Valid Fall Protection Certification
- Knowledge of OSHA standards and regulations pertaining to the specific trade or activity being managed
- Knowledge of BC Building Code and attention to detail an asset
- General knowledge of construction principals and phases
- Must have effective verbal and written communication skills and be proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook and other computer programs as may be necessary in the performance of CSO duties Excellent organizational skills
- Strong computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Foresight for possible hazards or dangerous situations
- Ability to maintain records, statistics and you can monitor trends to improve quality control and eliminate hazards
- Leadership abilities, experience working with diverse personalities
- Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal
- Excellent organizational skills

**Key Duties**:
**Daily**
- Administer first aid as needed.
- Conduct formal project site inspections.
- Collect and review forms and permits (e.g., FLHA, Ground Disturbance, Hot Work, Lead Edge, etc.).
- Provide safety and environmental guidance and support to the superintendent.
- Complete Incident Investigation Reports when required.
- Review and track toolbox minutes and Hazard Assessment forms.
- Review Site Safety Inspection Reports.
- Complete Safety Orientations.
- Collect and review Site-Specific Safe Working/Job Procedures.
- Collect and review Fall Protection plans.

**Weekly**
- Complete weekly safety statistics.
- Conduct APG toolbox talk.
- File trade safety documentation.

**Monthly**
- Inspect emergency equipment, including:

- DEP Box
- Emergency Box (fire extinguisher, air horn)
- Fall Protection equipment
- Evaluate trade partners’ compliance and report to the Project Manager for action if required.
- Conduct the Monthly Trade Safety Meeting.
- Complete the Monthly CSO Inspection Report Summary.

**Ongoing Responsibilities**
- Monitor and manage safety programs (both internal and client-based).
- Review safety programs to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Conduct site-specific safety orientations and training.
- Update and provide incident statistics and records, create safety bulletins, lead/coordinate safety meetings, and undertake safety initiatives as required.
- Assist in planning and start-up of new projects with respect to safety performance, best practices, and legislative requirements.
- Ensure all safety training is up to date and documented in a rapidly changing workforce.
- Attend safety networking events and/or courses.
- Revise, write, and implement safety procedures and policies.
- Liaise with WorkSafeBC as needed.
- Conduct thorough site inspections with due diligence.
- Interact professionally with clients and staff in a diplomatic and friendly manner.
- Execute and manage a disciplinary program for delinquent trades and site operatives.
- Perform consulting visits with clients and instruct on-site training courses.
- Screen and train safety trainers and consultants.
- Conduct performance reviews with site staff.
- Oversee Essence Properties OH&S roll-out in preparation for COR Certification, including policy and procedure development and implementation.
