The City of Thunder Bay is a place where art, culture and nature come together Watch this video to learn more about our City at: **Job Description**: ***:Under the direct supervision of the Manager - Food & Nutrition Services or designate, is responsible for the organization of cooking duties, for the preparation of foods for residents, staff, patrons, special functions, and Meals on Wheels, and for the supervision of the Nutrition & Food Services staff, using Cook/Chill technology. **MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES**: - Responsible for planning, organizing, participating in and reporting on the preparation/cooking of regular and therapeutic foods. - Maintains quality and portion control of foods according to menu requirements. - Participates in the development and maintenance of standardized recipes. - Responsible for sanitary food handling and proper storage of food. - Responsible for cleanliness of the work area and equipment. - Participates in meetings to review and plan food/menu-related matters. - Gives technical direction and guidance to other section staff. - Provides courteous and tactful customer service to residents, families, visitors, staff, and other patrons. - Participates in fire drills, evacuations, and other safety measures. - Assumes responsibility for the on-site section in the absence of the supervisor. - Performs such other related duties as may be assigned. **QUALIFICATIONS**: **Education/Experience**: - Successful completion of an Ontario apprenticeship program for the certified trade of Cook; and - Minimum of 5 years progressive experience as an Institutional Cook - Successful completion of the food handler training program as mandated by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care **Skills/Abilities**: - A genuine understanding of the needs of the elderly is required - Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing - Ability to work independently and as a team member - Demonstrated ability to practice good lifting and safety and sanitation techniques - Must be competent within the meaning of the Ontario _Occupational Health & Safety Act_ **Assets**: - A demonstrated ability in leadership skills and supervision is an asset. **CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**: - Must be willing to work shift work and holidays - Must provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination at point of conditional offer - Prior to commencing employment, will be required to review and attest/affirm to all Pioneer Ridge Staff Immunization Policies - Must pass work fitness test - Must undergo a successful Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) - Must have successfully undergone a "two step” tuberculosis skin test within the 12 months prior to employment - Prior to commencing employment, must undergo a successful Offence & Professional Misconduct Declaration Process - Must successfully complete all mandatory training as required by the Corporation on an annual basis **General Information**: **ONTARIO HUMAN RIGHTS CODE**: It is a contravention of the Human Rights Code of Ontario to discriminate on the basis of: race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, family status, disability, age, record of offences, gender identity or gender expression.
