Job Title: Event Director - Backpacks for the Homeless

Position Type: Volunteer

Organization: Backpacks for the Homeless

Location: Remote (Ottawa, Ontario, preferred for event attendance)

About Us:
Backpacks for the Homeless is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing “the essentials” to homeless individuals in our community. We are committed to making a positive impact by organizing special fundraising events to support our mission of providing backpacks filled with essential items to those in need.

Role Overview:
As the Event Director, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and executing special fundraising events to support the initiatives of Backpacks for the Homeless. You will play a key role in creating memorable and impactful experiences that engage our community, raise funds, and increase awareness of homelessness issues. While the role can be conducted remotely, your presence in the Ottawa area will be necessary to attend events as required.

Key Responsibilities:
Event Planning and Execution: Lead the planning and execution of special fundraising events, including but not limited to charity dinners, auctions, concerts, and community outreach events.

Promotion and Marketing: Collaborate with the marketing team to develop promotional materials and marketing campaigns to raise awareness of events and attract attendees and sponsors.

Volunteer Recruitment and Management: Recruit and manage volunteers to support event logistics, including setup, registration, coordination, and cleanup.

Event Day Management: Oversee all aspects of event logistics on the day of the event, including setup, registration, entertainment, catering, and guest experience. Ensure that events run smoothly and that attendees have a positive experience.

Post-Event Evaluation: Conduct post-event evaluations to assess the success of events, gather feedback from attendees and stakeholders, and identify areas for improvement.

Qualifications:
Passion for the mission and goals of Backpacks for the Homeless.

Previous experience in event planning and management, preferably in the non-profit sector.

Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with volunteers, vendors, sponsors, and stakeholders.

Detail-oriented and resourceful, with a creative approach to problem-solving.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and requirements.

Must be located in the Ottawa, Ontario, area to attend events as required.

Time Commitment:
This is a volunteer position requiring a commitment of approximately 5 -15 hours per week, with additional time required leading up to and during events. Flexibility in scheduling is available, as much of the work can be done remotely.
