**The Role**:
**Duties/Responsibilities**:
Works with client areas to define business and user requirements, and recommend, plan, and develop technical strategies and solutions to meet defined needs. Assists in the development of Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) between GIS and other departments, divisions, sections and programs.

Configures enterprise GIS technologies such as ArcGIS & ArcSDE solutions connected to a corporate MS SQL Server database. Configures, creates, maintains and analyzes spatial information for clients.

Researches, analyzes and evaluates the appropriateness of GIS spatial data and related tabular data for use in achieving the agreed upon standards outlined in the Service Level Agreements with Clients. Establishes and monitors standards for the receipt and use of specific forms of spatial data (e.g., Spatial Search tools)

Develops best practices for use of spatial data, while ensuring data integrity. Advises Corporate Records Management on timeframes regarding records retention and archiving of hard copy mapping products.

Creates and maintains digital maps, ensuring departmental needs are met, including planning and engineering related mapping requirements (e.g. site plans, road closures etc.).

Develops specialized maps using corporate databases, sourcing data availability, and evaluating the appropriateness of data use. Creates custom maps for both public and corporate needs.

Provides GIS technical training and information seminars in person and through online sessions. Interviews users and managers to determine system requirements and makes presentations to clients, management, vendors, and ITS staff regarding proposed solutions. Researches and recommends resources to guide staff in business process improvement. Discusses issues and concerns with clients, ITS staff, and other project stakeholders and develops strategies to overcome same.

Creates GIS related presentation material, graphics, and exhibits. Prepares graphic materials such as those included in reports, brochure covers, and generic design drawings. Designs various mapping layouts and formats. Ensures map presentment complies with the GIS section’s standards, and is visually appealing and easily understood by the user

Provides backup support for the GIS Web Server and assists in maintaining client’s computers properly configured for network access to GIS data and software.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**:
Knowledge of business requirement analysis, business process improvement, GIS software configuration, and spatial data modelling acquired through a 3-year bachelor’s degree or community college diploma in GIS, Computer Science, Geography or related field, plus 3 years related experience.

Skill/experience using ArcGIS desktop, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Server.

Experience integrating and implementing ESRI ArcGIS/ArcSDE solutions using MS SQL Server database technologies and standards.

Experience automating workflows using Model Builder and/or FME.

Knowledge of current related GIS industry standards and new technologies to provide technical support and troubleshooting and recommend improvements to existing GIS spatially enabled systems. Ability to define and resolve complex GIS technical problems in a diverse technology environment.

Research, analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills to investigate, analyze, and evaluate appropriateness of GIS spatial data and related tabular data for use by clients; design business process reviews; translate business and client requirements into technological solutions; and design and coordinate the implementation of automated systems.

Human relations, communication, facilitation, and presentation skills to relate effectively with and form consultative relationships with clients; explain complex GIS technical information to staff with varying degrees of technical knowledge; present GIS technical training and information seminars in person and through online sessions; participate in program area, divisional, and departmental meetings; interview users and managers to determine system requirements; make presentations to clients, management, vendors, and ITS staff regarding proposed solutions; and participate as an effective team member
