Job Summary
The Community Coordinator, reporting to and supervised by the Community Supervisor, is an integral part of the organization’s Community Outreach Team. This role involves volunteer recruitment and mentoring, raising community awareness about Willow Place services and educating the public on family violence, donation coordination and tracking, special events and fundraising and fostering positive community engagement and philanthropy.
Qualifications / Skills
- Undergraduate certification or degree in human services, communication, business administration, or public relations (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Demonstrated knowledge of family violence and its impact on women, men and children.
- Ability to draft and develop professional letters, reports, presentations and grant submissions.
- Ability to use Excel to complete data entry in an efficient manner.
- Excellent computer skills (Microsoft 365), social media management and planning experience (YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter. Website maintenance experience (WordPress) and the ability to use web-based programs such as Canva, Mail Chimp, Zoom, Teams and Survey monkey.
- Knowledge of community resources.
- Excellent interpersonal abilities, sound judgement and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Current Emergency First Aid and CPR Certificate.
- Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate.
- Satisfactory Child and Adult Abuse Registry and Criminal Record Checks.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills with the ability to recognize strategic risks and opportunities.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills with the ability to engage the public and build positive relationships.
- Proficiency working within evaluation frameworks.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage competing demands, and demonstrate excellent time management and organizational skills.
**Responsibilities**:
Fund Development
- Donor Base and Fundraising:
- Coordinate and track all monetary and in-kind donations using systems provided
- Support Community Supervisor to develop, sustain and grow corporate, organizational, and individual donors and supports.
- Provide support for fundraising efforts as required.
- Grant Applications and Management:
- Identify community, corporate, provincial, and federal granting opportunities under the direction of Community Supervisor.
Volunteer Recruitment and Management
- Develop and maintain an active volunteer base, including recruitment, screening, training, acknowledgment, and support.
- Work with staff and the Leadership Team to determine volunteer activities and leverage community support.
Public Education and Communication /Marketing Supports
- Coordinates and manages the organization’s social media presence using established media library and social media planning tools as well as real-time posts.
- Develops, coordinates, and facilitates public presentations as requested (averages 1-3 monthly).
- Support Community Supervisor with the development of innovative and strategic approaches to raising the public’s awareness of Willow Place services and gender-based violence including prevention activities that support building healthy relationships.
- As required, assist Community Supervisor with development of written materials such as newsletter articles, news release and social media materials
- Remain up to date on community resources through networking and monitor trends to benefit the Community Team and Willow Place.
Team Responsibility and Staff Development:
- Adheres to the values, guiding principles, policies, and procedures of Willow place and supports the organization's strategic direction.
- Participates in staff meetings and offered training.
- Acts as a responsible team member by demonstrating initiative, completing work duties, and by maintaining clear, direct, and respectful communication with all people in the work environment.
- Provides support, direction and recognition for volunteers, students and work placements involved.
- Proactively stays current with best and emerging practices in the field. Participates regularly in staff development and activities according to a learning and development plan identified through supervision and the on-going performance review process.
Organization Responsibilities:
- Maintains agency confidentiality and protects operations by keeping all Willow Place information confidential.
- Engages in regular supervision with Community Supervisor.
- Represents Willow Place in a consistently professional manner.
- Uses appropriate established processes for resolving internal agency problems.
- Maintains ongoing positive public relations with outside agencies, groups, and individuals.
- Maintains a strictly confidential/professional relationship with Willow Place program participants, and collaborate with organizations’staff and program participants
