The **Food Security Educator**will work closely with the Education Coordinator to support Nanaimo Foodshare’s mission to provide food security educational activities to community members. The Food Security Educator will gain firsthand experience at Nanaimo Foodshare’s farm and in our commercial kitchen. Activities delivered will include eco-farm tours, food production, farm maintenance, food preparation workshops, and day camps. There will be outdoor cooking activities where program participants gain or enhance basic cooking skills and learn to prepare farm-grown produce. Educational topics will include climate change, environmental sustainability, wetland habitat preservation, and local food production.

The Food Security Educator will promote Nanaimo Foodshare programs. They will research promotional and educational opportunities, create resources, schedule and facilitate activities to engage members of the public. They will seek ways to maximize accessibility by adapting programs to accommodate diverse participant needs and abilities.

The Food Security Educator will assist with farm maintenance and food production. Transferable basic food production skills such as planning, planting, maintaining and harvesting crops will be gained. Basic landscaping and site safety concepts will be introduced and practised. Insight into local environmental and food security issues, ecosystems, and climate change, local food production, and ways to impact community food access will be learned. Communication skills will be developed through interactions with participants, volunteers, community partners, members of the community, and Nanaimo Foodshare team members. Leadership and teamwork skills will be developed through activity facilitation, collaboration with Nanaimo Foodshare staff and volunteers.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 9 weeks

Pay: $19.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 per week
