Reporting to and under the general direction of the Regional Utilities Foreman, the Utilities Operator 2 - Solid Waste performs duties in support of the Utilities Department including garbage truck operation, garbage bin maintenance, operation of hand tools and other related duties in support of the Operations Department.
**PRIMARY DUTIES INCLUDE**:
- Garbage collection: operation of automatic solid waste collection vehicle following required routes.
- Bin repair: perform minor repairs and maintenance on solid waste containers.
- Labour and fleet operations: safely perform labour, general repairs and maintenance as required; professional and safe operations of the City’s fleet.
OTHER DUTIES:
- Provide assistance as requested within the City of Lacombe’s Utilities Department (Water, Wastewater, Solid Waste, and the water/wastewater commissions).
- Participate as required in the City’s Asset Management and Emergency Management Programs.
- Other duties as assigned by the Regional Utilities Foreman and Manager of Utilities.
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES**:
- Sound knowledge of and ability to follow health and safety rules and regulations.
- Physically able to perform the duties of the position, including the ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
- Ability to respond to concerns in a timely, solutions-focused manner.
- Ability to operate City fleet in a safe and competent manner.
- Ability to work with staff at all levels and members of the public with mínimal supervision.
- Ability to communicate effectively using courtesy, positivity, tact, and discretion in dealing with requests, complaints, or concerns.
- Ability to work outside in various weather conditions.
- Ability to represent the City and the Utilities Department professionally and competently and exhibit the City’s shared values of Collaboration, Innovation, Fiscal Responsibility, Respect and Integrity.
Required experience, Qualifications and certifications:
- Grade 12 or GED
- 3 years related experience
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid Alberta Driver’s License, Class 3, with Q endorsement with a satisfactory driving record.
**Salary and Benefits**: $2,400.00 - $3,000.00 biweekly (based on 40-hour work week depending on skills and experience). The City offers a generous benefit package, including health and welfare benefits, pension plan, and 6% vacation (approximately 3 weeks) to start.
