NATURE OF THE WORK

The position of Caretaking Supervisor entails the performance of management duties pertaining to the activities required for the upkeep and preventive and physical maintenance of the buildings of the school board by a team of caretaking personnel.

The principle responsibilities of the Caretaking Supervisor are to provide support, training and guidance to caretaking personnel on the proper methods and techniques of sanitary maintenance, as well as other tasks and responsibilities carried out by this group of employees.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the guidance and supervision of the Coordinator of Equipment Services, the Caretaking Supervisor:
Is responsible for visiting schools and centers to address concerns as to the quality of cleanliness and general performance of the caretaking personnel.

Observes the techniques and practices of the on-site school/centre staff and, where necessary, offers and demonstrates, in a positive and constructive manner, different techniques to improve the quality of the work in question.

Normally works evening shifts but could be requested to work days according to the needs of the School Board.

Supports and assists, as required and if necessary, the administrators of the school board by providing them with pertinent information concerning caretaking task specifications.

Participates, upon request, in preparing and updating policies, systems, standards and procedures related to his/her sector of activity and ensure that they are applied.

Helps prepare, under the supervision of the Coordinator of Equipment Services, and in consultation with the Principal, the sector cleaning plan for each school.

Ensure compliance with health and safety standards.

Inspects periodically the equipment and materials used by the caretaking personnel.

Reports the training needs of the caretaking personnel in the schools, centers and buildings.

Provides training to caretaking personnel on the proper methods and techniques of sanitary maintenance.

Performance evaluations of caretaking personnel

Other assigned duties specifically related to air quality in schools and centres

QUALIFICATIONS

Ten (10) years of relevant experience with the physical and sanitary maintenance of a building

REQUIRED SKILLS

An excellent knowledge of the operation of systems for which a caretaker is responsible, specifically: heating, ventilation, lighting, and alarm systems.

Strong interpersonal skills

Leadership skills and the ability to motivate, coordinate and supervise

To be able to communicate verbally effectively and clearly, in both French and English, with both colleagues and administrative staff in a school, centre or office building.

Experience using computers with a general knowledge of Excel and Word

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must possess a car to carry out his/her duties
