Nanaimo Science is a non-profit charitable organization that provides hands-on science programming that inspires curious minds. Nanaimo Science offers several programs for children, school groups, and the general public throughout the year, including day camps, homeschool programs, clubs, weekend workshops, and special events. Activities are provided in our studio at Country Club Centre in Nanaimo, or, delivered in the community through our "Science on the Move" programs. While our primary focus is for children ages 6-12, we also offer activities for preschoolers with parents' involvement, daycare groups, high school-level workshops, and community events intended for all ages. Work will be based out of the Nanaimo Science studio at Country Club Centre, however, program delivery will also be done in schools, outdoors on school grounds, and in parks/greenspaces/beaches. Travel to these locations will typically be provided via the use of Nanaimo Science's "Science on the Move" vans - a full drivers' license and a clean drivers' abstract is an important asset for this position. As we work with children, applicants must complete a criminal record with vulnerable sectors check a as part of their hiring process. Funding for this position may be partially provided by ECO Canada or other granting agencies. Applicants must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or hold Canadian refugee status. **Specific Duties**: - Research and create hands-on science/STEM programs for children/students. - Develop teacher resources related to programs; help publicize programs; support the administration of programs (e.g. scheduling or registrations); take part in the evaluation of programs with the Executive Director. - Work with colleagues to deliver programs to school groups, community groups, registered children/families for in-studio programs, or to the general public. - Take part in developing and delivering school-break camps, Science in the Park programs, or other major work at Nanaimo Science. - Support other Nanaimo Science STEM programs as needed. - Ensure the safety of children while delivering programs.
