**Our PDLS Team**

As part of Planning, Development and Legislative Services Department, one of our key roles is to manage future growth and investment in Waterloo Region and ensure infrastructure and services are in place. The Region of Waterloo is investing in our community to support local businesses and to provide the infrastructure and services needed for economic success and we continue to grow with 630,000+ people, we are the fourth largest community in Ontario and the 10th largest in Canada. To prepare for this growth, our team is working in so many projects as part of Regional Growth Management Strategy including rural and urban areas borders, new development and investments, initiatives on reduction of urban sprawl, protecting farmland, and bringing more people to the region’s core areas to live, work and play.

**The Opportunity**:
Reporting to Manager, Land Portfolio, as Supervisor, Urban Design & Planning, you will lead design analysis and facilitate planning work required to support the disposition and redevelopment of Regional lands, as well as future acquisitions to the Region’s housing and land portfolio, with a specific focus on housing and economic development opportunities. Working within a cross-disciplinary team of professionals in housing, planning, real estate, finance and economic development, you will drive conceptual design work and design thinking within the organization, in alignment with the Regional Official Plan and best practice, and Council’s affordable housing investment strategy and program goals and in coordination with local area municipalities.

**Bring Your Knowledge and Experience to the Region of Waterloo**

If you have knowledge and progressive experience in of urban design, public realm spatial considerations, building design, development, planning, and architectural processes with progressively responsible related experience we would love to hear more about you and talk to you about the role.

To assume the role of Supervisor, Urban Design & Planning, you will have a profile that reflects the following strengths:

- A degree in a related field (e.g., urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, planning)
- Full membership in the Ontario Professional Planning Institute is required. Membership or eligibility for full membership with Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) or Ontario Association of Landscape Architects (OALA) as applicable with planning approval experience.
- Skill and creativity in conceptual design and graphics (manual and computer) integrating multi-use purposes that contribute to the long-term goals and vision of the project. Visual 3-D analysis and visualizing is preferred.
- Knowledge of and ability to comply with policies, procedures, guidelines, and related legislation/ regulations (e.g., zoning by-laws, Regional Official Plan, Planning Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, Ontario Building Code).
- Research, analytical, organizational, problem solving, and continuous improvement skills to develop new and creative design options that meet program goals in a multi-stakeholder and political environment; identify planning and design issues; and manage projects through a diverse range regulatory/legislative frameworks.
- Leadership, communication, human relations, political acuity, and presentation skills to supervise, train, develop, motivate and support staff; work effectively with multi-disciplinary project partners; present and justify recommendations to senior staff, Council, and at public meetings; understand and incorporate feedback from stakeholders; and participate as an effective team member.
- Ability to draft and edit clear, concise reports and planning documents.
- Strong and effective presentation skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
