Job Summary
The Program Facilitator
- Youth Lead, is responsible for delivering employment services geared to the needs of Newcomer Youth including delivering workshops and developing experiential learning placements.
**Job Specific Responsibilities**:
Direct Client Service
- Establish and maintain a positive and supportive working alliance with client.
- Manage a client caseload.
- In partnership with the client and/or relevant stakeholders, develop, review and monitor employment service plans.
- Assist clients in building self-agency.
- Engage reluctant or resistant clients.
- Reduce barriers to access for the population served, including advocacy.
- Develop unpaid placement opportunities for participants.
- Monitor participant placements with participants and mentors, including regular on-site visits to placements.
- Ensure placement mentors can provide safe and appropriate placement opportunities.
- Ensure placement mentors comply with program requirements.
- Establish and maintain relationships/partnerships with mentors and relevant agencies that support client needs.
- Assist program participants to build support networks and professional networks.
- Organize and facilitate workshops focused on employment, career and life skills.
- Support clients in their learning and job readiness by exploring learning and employment possibilities, develop learning readiness skills, and develop job readiness skills.
- Track financial support provided to participants.
- Maintain awareness of current issues and developments in the respective field.
- Assist in promotional activities and participant/mentor recruitment and outreach.
- Assist in the development of promotional materials.
- Provide information and resources to mentees and mentors.
- Provide appropriate community referrals as required.
- Deliver services in a variety of formats including both in-person and virtually, using a variety of platforms.
Administration and Clerical
- Maintains electronic records and protects the confidentiality of the information.
- Assist in maintaining the program database by entering data, generating reports, supporting analysis, and regular auditing of data integrity.
- Monitor participant attendance and activities and reports as required.
- Participate in regular chart audits and reviews.
- Plan and organize work.
Human Resources
- Provide support and assistance to volunteers and/or placement students.
- Cover-off volunteers/or placement students’ duties as required.
Teamwork and Collaboration
- Maintain effective communication of information among internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist in the development of program specific policies and procedures/guidelines and in the overall planning and development of the program.
- Attend and participate at team and general staff meetings as scheduled.
- Participate in the evaluation component of relevant program.
- Provide support to clients of team members as needed.
- Participate in staff development as appropriate to the position.
**Qualifications**:
Education
- Relevant college or university degree, preferably in social sciences
Professional Experience
**3 years experience in the following areas**:
- Working with individuals who are newcomers, refugees, youth or other clients with barriers to accessing the Canadian job market
- Experience in employment related initiatives
Key Competencies
- Knowledge of issues, trends and legislation in the employment field and the labour market.
- Experience with, and sensitivity to issues facing newcomers and youth
- Proven ability to outreach to, and work with employers and mentors.
- Understanding of current labour market trends, immigration policies, and barriers to employment for youth.
- Understanding of mentoring and volunteer management principles.
- Group facilitation experience.
- Knowledge of community and social service resources, in particular services for job seekers.
