ʔakisq̓nuk First Nation (″AFN″) is looking for a talented individual to join our team as a **Facilities Manager**. Reporting to the Director of Infrastructure, the Facilities Manager will lead a small team responsible for maintaining AFN-owned buildings, both inside and out. This includes general maintenance, remodeling, snow removal, lawn care, and supporting capital projects as needed. The role also oversees the AFN fleet, ensuring vehicles are properly maintained, cleaned, and stored. The Facilities department provides essential services to the community, including lawn care and snow plowing for seniors, as well as other maintenance needs.

**_ Job Type: This role is full-time working 35 hours per week onsite. This role is not eligible for overtime._**

**The primary responsibilities include**:
**Operational Management**:

- Lead the facility maintenance team to complete tasks efficiently.
- Implement systems to track service requests and project requirements for buildings and fleet.
- Oversee special projects, including contractor selection and supervision.
- Develop and execute work plans, including schedules, tools, equipment, and resource allocation.
- Maintain records of maintenance and repairs for AFN buildings and fleet.
- Review and approve employee timesheets.
- Establish inspection and preventive maintenance processes for tools and equipment.

**Strategic Planning and Development**:

- Develop and manage long-term maintenance plans for AFN buildings.
- Collaborate with other departments on facility use, including event setup and janitorial services.
- Lead the development of facility management standards and policies.
- Plan and coordinate office setups to optimize space and meet staff needs.
- Implement a program to replace outdated building materials and appliances.
- Prepare annual work plans and schedules to achieve facilities team objectives.

**Leadership and Coordination**:

- Ability to safely load, transport and operate mini excavator, skid steer and associated attachments, all within recommended safe practices and guidelines.
- Total commitment to on site safety guidelines especially relating to PPE, tailgate meetings, permitting and ground disturbance.
- Support team development and job-specific expertise.
- Coordinate with other departments to provide seamless maintenance services.
- Collaborate with the Director of Infrastructure to address maintenance challenges and implement best practices.
- Work with engineering staff on infrastructure repairs and capital projects.
- Provide guidance and training to the Facilities team on proper equipment use.
- Provide mentorship to staff for development and succession planning.
- Monitor trade personnel and oversee project completion.
- Manage expenditures within approved budgets.
- Proactively address health and safety issues.
- Display strong problem-solving skills and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
- A strong team player with exceptional communication skills.
- Attention to detail on small and large maintenance duties.
- Leads by example; has hands on experience in all areas required by the job

**Qualifications**:

- Diploma or Certificate in facilities management, building maintenance, business administration, or a related field.
- 2 - 4 years of experience in facilities management, building maintenance, or a related field.
- Experience in managing a team of maintenance or facilities staff.
- Experience with fleet management and overseeing vehicle maintenance (advantageous).
- Proven experience in project management, particularly in handling capital projects, renovations, and infrastructure repairs.
- Experience in working with contractors and external vendors for building services and projects.
- Familiarity with preventative maintenance programs and systems to ensure operational efficiency.
- Experience working with First Nations/Aboriginal/Indigenous communities
- Understanding of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.) and maintenance practices.
- Ability to address operational issues quickly and effectively, making decisions under pressure.
- Experience managing budgets, monitoring expenses, and reducing costs where necessary.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for coordinating with internal teams, contractors, and external vendors.
- Strong ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and ensure deadlines are met.
