**Mandate**:
- Kingston Orthopaedic Pain Institute _and our valued patients require a Physician Assistant that will work alongside Sports Medicine/Concussion Physicians during consultation, follow-ups, palpation guided procedures, and ultrasound guided procedures. Initially this role will start off as a part-time position, in hopes of growing to a full-time position as the role grows/expands.
Adding a PA to our clinical practice is expected to greatly decrease wait times, and improve continuity of care with respect to a large population dealing with osteoarthritis, acute concussions, and chronic concussion symptoms.
The PA’s clinical expectations is as follows:
- _**Medical Expert**_ : Perform a complete assessment of a patient presenting with musculoskeletal issues/concussions and formulate a clinical treatment plan.
Implementing effective treatment plans that include preventative, diagnostic, and therapeutic interventions.
- Procedural Skills*_ _: _Demonstrate and assist with procedural skills, both diagnostic and therapeutic - including joint injections and ultrasound guided procedures.
- _**Communicate**_ : Accurately elicit and synthesize relevant information and perspectives of patients, families, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals. Convery accurate oral, written, and electronic information about a medical encounter to optimize clinical decision-making, patient safety, and confidentiality.
- _**Educates **_ patients about the diagnosis, investigations, and management plan for medical issues. Discusses risks/ benefits of procedures and post-procedural care for palpation
and/or ultrasound guided procedures.
- _**Utilizes **_ sterile techniques to prepare procedural trays and medical/injection supplies;
- _**Adheres **_ to PA responsibilities as outlined in the Occupational Health & Safety Act and
KOPI’s procedure manual;
**Qualifications and Experience**
- _Kingston Orthopaedic Pain Institute _ **has settled into a new state-of-art facility and we continue to receive a high volume of referrals from Eastern Ontario’s Family Physicians. Criteria to qualify for this role include**:
- Graduate of a Physician Assistant Program (Canadian/US) or equivalent;
- Certified by the Physician Assistant Certification of Canada or National Commission on the
Certification of Physician Assistants (US);
- Eligible to work in Canada/Ontario;
- Advanced musculoskeletal knowledge;
- Interest in comprehensive concussion care;
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and with respect in all oral and written format with patients, public, colleagues, and other health disciplines;
- Established organizational and analytical skills with a high attention to accuracy and detail;
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing education activities supporting ongoing professional learning.
