Summer Kids Club Leader

_This is an 8 week term position (35 hours per week)_
Summer Kids Club Leader takes part in the design and implementation of daily child and youth
programs for children and youth entering grade 1 - 7. Summer Kids Club activities are hosted in
Family Dynamics 7 Resource Centres, located within Manitoba Housing communities across the
city of Winnipeg. Summer Kids Club Leaders will coordinate, organize and actively participate in
daily child/youth programs that engage participants in new adventures, experiences, caring
supervision and support in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Agency.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Planning:
- Follow the planned curriculum and active participation in programming
- Planning, leading and implementing age appropriate activities
- Responsible for completing/receiving registration forms for participants
- Responsible for documentation as it pertains to safety, field trips permission forms, contact
information, attendance reporting etc. and distributing community flyers
- Ensure maintenance of the program space and inventory
- Actively participate in collaborative conversations with resource centre team regarding:
creativity, changing/adapting activities, checking in etc’
- Prepare healthy meal and snack offerings
Guiding Behaviour and Supervision of Children:
- Responsible for maintaining and respecting confidentiality
- Responsible for problem solving and navigating difficult situations
- Mediate and demonstrate conflict resolution as appropriate
- Responsible for informing supervisors of conflicts needing intervention
- Guide behaviours in a supportive and positive manner
- Supervise participants and ensure their safety and general well-being
- Know, enforce and follow all safety guidelines associated with the program
- Responsible for providing mentorship support
- Other duties as related to the position and as reasonably assigned by the supervisor
**Requirements**:
- Enrollment or completion in post-secondary education is an asset
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification is an asset
- Food Handlers Certificate is an asset
- Experience working with children and youth, preferably in a non-profit/social services setting
- Knowledge of child development, guiding behaviour, interpersonal communication and conflict
resolution.
- Willingness to learn and ability to take direction
- High energy, enthusiastic, and passionate about working with children
**Due to the requirements of the Canada Summer Jobs program, applicants must**:
- Be between 15 and 30 years old;
- Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been
conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to
work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and
regulations.
- If 18 years or older, we require a police record check with vulnerable sector clearance and
a child abuse registry check.
