Boulevard Kitchen and Oyster Bar is located at the Sutton Place hotel, in the heart of downtown Vancouver. Our passionate front of house team pairs exquisite service and a curated beverage program with the culinary vision of Chef Alex Chen to deliver a truly unique Canadian dining experience. We are searching for a full time, experienced, professional banquet captain to join our team and assist in delivering the Boulevard experience in our meeting and events space.

**Banquet Captain**

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Assist with hiring, training and coaching of all staff members.
- Review banquet event orders and schedule staff as required.
- Check all room sets prior to each event. Meet with the Banquet Chef to confirm quantities of food items and timing of food leaving the kitchen. Conduct post function meeting with Kitchen to discuss event.
- Inform staff of specific needs for meetings and events.
- Conduct pre-function meetings to ensure grooming standards of team members are met. Allocate stations and partners for staff and Conduct a well-orchestrated event.
- Review banquet event orders; communicate with the meeting planner handling the function to ensure all needs have been met and to check for any last-minute instructions or changes.
- Be aware of upcoming groups and major conventions over the upcoming 90 days. Review assigned work functions for the entire day and the next week.
- Read all assigned banquet menus and clarify/resolve any issues as they arise. Complete all daily administrative tasks.
- Report all maintenance, repair or housekeeping concerns to the appropriate department immediately.
- Deputize in the absence of a head of department.
- Assist in other food and beverage areas as required.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Minimum 1-year supervisory capacity in the banquet department of a hotel or similar.
- Must possess outstanding, pro-active guest service skills, strong leadership skills, a professional presentation and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Serving it Right certification
- Must be flexible to work varying schedules, including late nights and early morning shifts.
- Friendly, enthusiastic, and professional at all times.
- Work well under pressure and as part of a professional team.
- Must be fluent in English, a second language is an asset.
- Must possess strong food, beverage and wine knowledge.
- Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours in length and be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.
- Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment.
- A good physical condition, as this position requires constant walking, standing, bending and lifting.
- Strong Computer skills, experience with Opera Cloud is an asset.

Compensation is based on previous experience and is negotiable.

**Salary**: $18.00-$20.00 per hour
