**Media Production Technician, University Relations**:
**Primary Purpose**: The primary purpose of this position is to provide professional technical support in the area of audio and video production at the University.

**Nature of Work**:Reporting to the Technical Supervisor for Media Production, the work is primarily focused on the delivery of multimedia content to support the university’s strategic initiatives. The work is set in a variety of environments including audio and video studio spaces, video editing suites, and remote locations. Video productions are shot primarily “on location” in a wide range of settings around the university campus, City of Saskatoon, the province, and the country. Every location is unique and therefore requires specific sound, lighting, and camera set up for the individual environment and for the story (content), we are developing for the client. This work is, at times, performed under a variety of difficult conditions including: outdoors in all seasons, in foul smelling, dirty or contaminated environments, in confined spaces for many hours, standing for long periods of time, and carrying heavy equipment. Additionally, shift work may be assigned to meet deadlines.

**Typical Duties**: The key role of a technician in the Media Production Unit is to provide expert technical support to staff, faculty, external clients and students in all aspects of audio and video production in multiple formats and delivery platforms. Specific roles and functions include:

- EFP/Studio Camera Operator
- Production Switcher/Director - Production Switcher/Director for multi-camera live streaming of public and secured events staged in varied locations. Extensive knowledge of all streaming components required in order to effectively troubleshoot within a live production environment
- Video Editor - Demonstrated post-production proficiency with non-linear editing software and delivery outputs for a multitude of platforms
- Instructor - Technicians also provide instruction in best practice for students, faculty, and staff on use of audio/video recording hardware and software
- Zoom Video Conferencing - Set-up and operation/recording of hybrid video conferencing
- Digital Photography - Demonstrated capability in the use of DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) cameras, lenses used for still photography and video/audio recording
- Lighting_ - _Ability to design lighting setups for studio, location, interview, and chromakey production
- Data Management - File conversions, compression and knowledge of LTO storage and asset management
- Audio Operator _- _Operation of studio and mobile audio recording and mixing.
- Proper maintenance of equipment such as checking equipment on a regular basis to ensure proper operation and arrange for servicing or recommend replacement if needed
- Ongoing education of skill sets and research and development of emerging technologies (e.g. AI) is expected and encouraged

**Qualifications**

**Education**: Completion of Grade 12 and a diploma in a related field such as the A/V Production Technical Certificate or a degree in Media Production.

**Experience**:**Five years of experience in a media production or broadcast facility.

**Skills**:

- Demonstrated ability with studio, EFP and DSLR camera operations
- Demonstrated ability using non-linear video editing and digital audio workstations, computer proficiency
- Ability to switch live multi-camera video productions
- Ability to record and mix audio in a studio or remote location
- Ability to supervise productions and provide direction to staff
- Ability to design and execute professional lighting for varied settings
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and maintain equipment responsibly
- Ability and knowledge to provide instruction in best practices in production techniques
- Ability to interact professionally and communicate effectively
- Ability to coordinate multiple tasks at once
- Ability to work as a team as well as work well independently with little supervision in a time-sensitive environment
- Physical ability to lift and handle heavy equipment
- Ability to adapt to constant change and remain current with emerging technologies
- Must have a valid Saskatchewan driver’s license with a good driving record
