Youth Justice Support Worker

YMCA of Northern Alberta is hiring a compassionate and committed **Youth Justice Support Worker** to assist young individuals during pivotal moments in their community reintegration process. Specifically, the role supports youth under the Youth Criminal Justice Act by facilitating their smooth transition back into their communities. The Youth Justice Worker will provide hands-on support to help bridge gaps between correctional and community systems by collaborating with correctional facilities, schools, and community organizations. Essential duties include facilitating access to key resources, transportation assistance, and guidance on education and employment opportunities.
**This position will be based out of the Edmonton Youth Attendance Centre.**

**Essential Functions**
- Provide service coordination and navigation, including connecting youth to housing, employment, education, health care, and social services based on individualized requirements.
- Engage with families and natural support networks to strengthen relationships.
- Offer assistance such as resume building, job search and interview skills to support youth with obtaining employment
- Facilitate transportation for youth to appointments, school, and other crucial locations.
- Make “warm referrals” to external resources, ensuring successful transitions to ongoing support.
- Act as a liaison between correctional centres, Probation Officers, Youth Attendance Centres, and community services.
- Work independently or collaboratively in team environments, ensuring the safety and well-being of youth at all times.
**What You’ll Need**
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, Criminology, or a related field.
- 2 - 4 years experience working directly with high-risk youth in the criminal justice system.
- Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification.
- Child Welfare and Police Security Clearance.
- Enhanced Security Clearance (mandatory).
- Valid driver’s license, clear driver’s abstract, and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Suicide Intervention Certification (preferred).
- Experience engaging with cultural groups, marginalized populations, and both urban and rural communities.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of group facilitation, individual assessment, program planning, and evaluation.
- Familiarity with community, education, youth, and human services resources.
