**Position: Director of Care, Nursing Services**
**Status: Permanent, Full-Time, Senior Leader Non-Union Position, 80 Hours Bi-Weekly.**
**Location: Glen Haven Manor**
**Summary**:
As a member of the senior management team the Director of Care participates in all activities related to the operation of nursing department. The primary responsibility is for the operation and management of the Nursing Department in the facility, ensuring the provision of comprehensive nursing and allied health services to all residents which meet the Mission, Vision and Values of the organization and are in compliance with all governing regulations.
- This position serves to assist the Administrator in devising, maintaining and implementing a high-quality standard of client care by assuring the competent delivery of all care related services for our facility. Responsible for defining and for the direction, coordination and delivery of Nursing Care, Restorative Care, Special Needs Coordination, Client Transport, Pharmacy, Family liaison, Physician liaison, Physiotherapy Care, recreation, Activity, Auxiliary liaison, Volunteers liaison, Special Events and Community Relations for the facility. This Director will be expected to motivate and lead their team in an efficient, competent, responsible and professional manner. Must be able to maintain an effective training program, and must be knowledgeable and ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory and safety codes.
**Qualifications**:
- Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to co-ordinate, supervise and manage a comprehensive nursing care program
- Demonstrated experience managing a team
- Clinical experience in a long term care setting an asset
- Effective written, oral and interpersonal communication
- Skilled in problem solving; flexible; strong organizational skills
**Requirements**:
- Licensed Registered Nurse in the Province of Nova Scotia
**Job Duties**
- To provide leadership and direct the general operation of the department in accordance with the mission and strategic plan of the facility;
- To provide effective leadership by insuring that best practices protocol are implemented practiced, upgraded and maintained by duly qualified and licensed professional.
- To provide effective leadership by insuring the definition and implementation of appropriate professional support, compliance, training and orientation for care and service providers both internal and outsourced;
- Performs front line service delivery and the daily coordination of care services and assumes the responsibility for the direction of site based Client Care staff. This includes responsibilities regarding disciplinary matters, absenteeism, daily staff assignments, training, retraining, quality assurance and client satisfaction.
- Accountable for the implementation, management and coordination of Client Care services and responsible for the program schedule as determined by the Administrator.
- Performs an important role in the quality assurance process by performing inspections of all services provided, and ensure compliance with all applicable statutory, regulatory or industry standards and codes. Reporting responsibilities include inspection reports, client satisfaction surveys, equipment inspections, daily team reports, project completion reports and other quality assurance tasks as may be assigned by the facilitator.
- Manages inventory and provides coordination of equipment and supply needs of the Client Care team.
- To define, recommend and issue departmental policies and procedures;
- To insure the timely implementation and enforcement of all applicable policies, procedures guidelines and directives related to the department;
- Provides support to the administrator by reporting all pertinent information, and by insuring adequate communication.
- Instills a positive service‐minded attitude and feeling of pride and responsibility in the Client Care staff by demonstrating a personal enthusiasm and team spirit.
- To coordinate and provide accountabilities for all departmental activities to insure the effective and efficient delivery of services of the department including matters related to staffing, client admissions, client service, family liaison, governmental liaison, accreditation, licensing, professional standards and professional outsourcing of services required by the department;
- To account for the overall comfort and satisfaction of clients as it relates to departmental services.
- To account for the smooth, effective and efficient operation of the department, and more particularly, to create and support a work environment conducive to a positive staff morale and a profession staff approach in all of their interactions with clients, client families, co‐workers and the public at large.
