We install and maintain both flower beds and seasonal colour displays (bedding out, planters). We take care of "the pretty" in gardens and do the work to keep gardens looking good. We do not mow lawns nor build hardscapes. We are looking for a Gardener/Crew Lead to lead and work along side one or two team members in the care of approximately 30 gardens located in Springbank, Bearspaw and within the city. This role is critical to the work performed for our clients and ensuring our standards are met. You will _*_eventually* be taking a work vehicle home with you and commuting directly to job sites. **The Garden Crew Lead position typically runs from 1st or 2nd week in April to the first week of November, weather dependent. After that, if there is fit and interest there is the possibility of doing winter projects until mid-December.** **Your responsibilities as a crew leader**: - Coordinate and **work along side** crew members performing maintenance/planting according to schedule and standards - Train team members in plant id, horticultural practices (weed, cultivate, edge, prune, top dress, etc) and company procedures - Ensure clients are pleased with our garden care - Produce timely, accurate progress reports and timesheets - Communicate with clients and management - Maintain your tools, vehicle tidiness and vehicle supplies **What you need to have to do the role**: - Organization and leadership skills - **Strong plant ID skills**: - Minimum 1 year gardening experience (whether professional or hobby) - Clean class 5 driver’s license (an abstract will be required) - Good physical condition - Own equipment: Cell phone with data plan, gloves, masks, eye protection, steel toed boots **What’s nice to have for this role**: - First Aid Certification - Ability to use a gas-powered blower, hedger and trimmer (can train) **What we offer**: Working with others who care about doing good work and enjoy plants and learning about horticulture Training in technical skills and plant id, including on-line resources Small teams Bonus Health Benefits Account **About the Job**: We work in groups of 3-5 during spring and fall clean-ups and then groups of 2-3 during regular maintenance season. Leads work slightly more hours than their team - roughly 44 hrs/ week and 8 -- 8.5 hrs/day for crew leads, weather dependent. During annual planting and spring clean-up, you may work longer hours.
