About the Program

The MD Program at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) offers an exciting opportunity for Anatomy Technicians to support first-year medical students as they navigate the Foundations Phase (Phase 1) of their education. The team is dedicated to delivering a dynamic and hands-on approach to anatomy education through the Principles of Medicine course. Working alongside clinical faculty and course facilitators, Anatomy Technicians will play a pivotal role in facilitating lab activities, ensuring the safe operation of anatomy labs, and providing technical support for students. This position is integral to creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment that emphasizes both foundational anatomy knowledge and professional lab practices. The Department of Medical Education is committed to fostering an engaging and collaborative educational atmosphere, making this a key role within TMU’s innovative and forward-thinking MD program.

The Opportunity

The MD Program at TMU is seeking skilled and detail-oriented professionals to serve as Anatomy Technicians supporting first-year medical students during the Foundations Phase (Phase 1) of the MD Program. Anatomy Technicians will assist in the delivery of anatomy education, working closely with clinical faculty and course facilitators to ensure effective, hands-on learning experiences for students enrolled in:
Principles of Medicine (MED101)

In this role, Anatomy Technicians will help create an engaging and supportive learning environment that emphasizes core anatomy knowledge, safe lab practices, and professional conduct. The Anatomy Technician will demonstrate and facilitate assigned labs under clinical faculty supervision, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the labs, providing technical support and advice to students and clinical faculty regarding equipment and lab materials. The position reports to the Associate Director, Curriculum (course lead), with a dotted line to the Director, Curriculum (Phase 1). Anatomy Technicians will receive orientation and training in Summer 2025 and support in-person sessions from September 2025 to June 2026.
- Preparation Time: 1-2 hours/week in lab set-up and maintenance (typically will occur on Wednesdays)
- Course Schedule: Thursdays, 9:00-11:00 a.m. AND Thursdays, 1:00-3:00 p.m.

Key Responsibilities:

- Anatomy Lab Preparation: Sets up and maintains anatomy lab environments, including equipment and teaching materials.
- Technical Support: Assists clinical faculty and students during anatomy lab sessions, helping them safely navigate dissection materials, anatomical models, and digital learning tools. Demonstrates the correct use of lab technology and equipment to students and clinical faculty.
- Facilitation Support: Provides laboratory demonstration support to clinical faculty and course facilitators for the anatomy course and provides assistance to clinical faculty in the development and selection of anatomy tools and materials. Demonstrates and facilitates assigned laboratory sessions under clinical faculty supervision, assisting students regarding practical aspects of anatomy learning.
