We currently have an opening for an Assistant Store Manager, for our Truro and area store. The assistant store manager is generally responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operations of the store as assigned by the owner or manager. These duties commonly include supervision of personnel, serving as store manager in absence; helping to meet sales and financial objectives, including advertising and promotions planning; working on special projects; supervising inventory, merchandising, pricing; and facilitating communications between management and employees.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
**Sales and Service Leadership**
Conduct and document regular coaching sessions with direct reports, a minimum of once per month.
Work to continually improve coaching skills by reviewing performance data, discussing strengths and improvement opportunities with direct reports, and agreeing on next steps.
Facilitate staff meetings and training.
Find opportunities to recognize staff for their contributions
Manage the New Employee Orientation Program for new direct reports
Serve as manager in manager’s absence.
Hire and develop new talent with your assigned department(s).
Advise store manager well in advance of need for increase or reduction in sales personnel.
Develop promotions to enhance sales performance.
Suggest rule or policy changes to store manager when you think such changes would improve efficiency, morale, operations, profits, sales, etc.
Ensure that the sales floor and sales staff are ready for all promotions.
Understand and lead the Power Aisle Merchandising Program as well as other merchandising techniques that produce the highest possible level of sales.
Ensure that end-caps and feature displays are properly merchandised, maintained, and changed on a timely basis.
Work on additional duties and assignments as assigned by management.
Complete the Manager Learning Plan in The Expert Zone, including all Get Managing courses
**Employee Experience**
Manage the employee review process for all direct reports, which includes target setting, mid-year reviews and year end reviews.
Schedule your week to ensure all direct reports are supported and feedback can be provided on their performance
Identify development opportunities for direct reports and ensure that an ongoing training schedule is in place to support their efforts
Be responsive to employees who have questions and/or comments about their job responsibilities.
Resolve employee complaints and problems.
Take appropriate disciplinary action(s) and record when employees are guilty of violating company rules and/or policies.
Encourage employees to share their ideas and suggestions.
**Customer Experience**
Establish work schedules of full
- or part-time sales personnel.
Ensure the store is always clean and ready for customers. Implement a schedule to ensure the cleanliness of the store
Implement and maintain the Eye of the Customer program
Greet and assist customers on the sales floor.
Maintain good customer service through your presence on the sales floor by making effective use of your knowledge of products, projects, and services. Set a good example for other employees through your ability and desire to assist customers and to maximize sales.
Resolve customer claims and/or complaints in a manner that is timely, courteous, and discreet.
Operational Effectiveness
Ensure that store fixtures, POS system, and other equipment are in proper condition to meet the stores operational needs.
Identify current or foreseen operating situations and inform store manager in a timely manner to facilitate a solution.
Understand the POS system and procedures related to purchases.
Help lead the introduction of the upcoming new POS system
**Risk Management**
Be an expert in Health and Safety procedures relating to the retail staff
Complete all relevant courses in Systems 24/7
Work in a safe manner in accordance to provincial and federal safety legislation, as well as use of good common sense.
Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management to have the situation corrected.
Lead the activities of direct reports to reduce shoplifting Act, consistent with company policy, to address and discourage it.
Be familiar with video surveillance equipment and liaise with police to provide evidence
**Personal Development**
Leading by example, complete all courses in the Expert Zone and Systems 24/7
Attend trade shows and Homecoming events as appropriate.
