**ABOUT BROADMEAD CARE**
Broadmead Care is a vibrant non-profit health care provider in Victoria, BC with a reputation for high quality, innovation and leading practices. We are funded by Island Health, Veterans Affairs Canada, BC Housing, and philanthropy to provide a range of services including residential complex care and adult day programs for Veterans and seniors, and residential complex care for adults with disabilities.
Broadmead Care operates in a 24-hour, 7-day per week environment employing hundreds of employees at numerous distinct worksites. Occupations include registered and licenced practical nurses, registered care attendants, social workers, therapy staff, food service, housekeeping, laundry, administrative, management and other staff.
Unionized employees belong to the Broadmead Employees’ Association, a poly-party certification consisting of two unions: The BC Nurses' Union (BCNU), representing registered nurses and licenced practical nurses, and the BC Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU), which represents all other unionized employees.

**PURPOSE OF POSITION**
Under supervision, carries out tasks related to the laundering of soiled staff uniforms, linen, and residents’ clothing and incontinent supplies, and to the distribution of clean items to the departments and units.
**SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES / DELIVERABLES**
**1.** **Processes clean linen, and clothing by**:
- removing articles from washing machines;
- loading dryers and setting the appropriate dry cycle;
- removing from dryer and sorting, folding, and placing on shelves, or hanging on racks in the case of personal clothing and uniforms [VML only];
- inspects clean linen for quality control purposes and separates stained, torn and otherwise defective linens for repair, stain treatment and rewash.
- delivering clean clothing racks to the units;
- delivering supplies of clean linen to the units, in accordance with established quotas for each area;
- delivering staff uniforms to the appropriate areas [VML only].
**2.** **Processes soiled clothing and linen supplies by**:
- collecting bags of soiled laundry from resident living areas and other areas of the facility;
- weighing bags and recording in the appropriate records;
- sorting laundry into the appropriate wash categories;
- checking personal clothing for any necessary repairs, to ensure that pockets are empty, and to separate dry cleaning items or other special requirement articles;
- loading washing machines and setting the appropriate wash cycle;
- replacing chemical supply containers on the washing machines when necessary.
**3. Carries out other related duties as required such as**:
- assisting in maintaining the work area in a clean, safe, and tidy condition;
- reporting to the supervisor defective or damaged furniture and equipment, and any safety hazards;
**4.** **Labels residents’ personal clothing by**:
- Affixing name labels to resident’s clothing, using a label heat machine, upon their admission to the Unit and as new articles are acquired;
**5. Follows all policies and procedures of Broadmead Care now and as they are developed**
**6. Performs other duties as required**
**SELECTION CRITERIA**
- completion of Grade 10; preferably some related work experience and knowledge of laundry equipment and procedures;
- ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- ability to organize work efficiently
- ability to meet the physical requirements of the job including heavy lifting and prolonged standing and walking;
- ability to interact effectively with co-workers, other staff, and elderly residents;
- ability to work under pressure of production deadlines.
- must be eligible to work with vulnerable adults under the BC Criminal Records Review Program
- valid Criminal Records Check completed by the Criminal Record Review Program
- must demonstrate a personality, ability and temperament necessary to manage or work with persons in care
**Job Type**: Casual
**Salary**: $23.38-$25.23 per hour
