About Us:
Atira Women's Resource Society, an award-winning nonprofit organization known for its inclusionary hiring practices and where a job is more than a pay cheque. We offer the opportunity to work alongside a remarkable group of women working to make the world a more just place, one woman, one child, one home, one job at a time.
About the Job:
Reporting to the Program Manager, the Senior Women’s Outreach Worker is responsible for the day-to-day work of supporting women with a wide array of emotional and practical work. Activities range from active listening/one-to-one support and group support, accompaniments and advocacy. Your primary role will be to identify and support women aged 55 years and older in connecting to resources in Surrey with a focus on the South Surrey/White Rock area. In this dynamic position, we encourage creativity and leadership and make space for staff to develop and implement programming in collaboration with the women, their co-workers and the Program Manager. Your role can involve such things as supporting women with grocery shopping, medical appointments, income tax preparation appointments, food bank, learning the bus routes, connecting with housing preventions programs, filling out forms such as Handidart, Safer etc., connecting women with services such as Fraser Health services, Home Support, Meals on Wheels, responding to emergencies, administering naloxone when needed, preparing safety plans or other needs that the women you work with may identify they need support with. You are a fantastic team player and will be great at keeping accurate records, files, log notes and complete statistical information as per Atira’s practice and policies. You are also good in building relationships with the community members that you are part of. Your primary role will be to ensure women are connected to resources and have identified support systems prior to transitioning to permanent housing. We encourage creativity and leadership and make space for staff to develop and implement programming in collaboration with women and their co-workers.
About You:
You question actions inconsistent with our values and you treat everyone with fairness and respect independent of their status or disagreement with you. You expect great things from yourself and your co-workers. You inspire others with your passion for women’s anti-violence work and your eagerness for excellence. You contribute to an environment where women can flourish and grow and you seek what is best for women, rather than what’s best for you or your team. You challenge the status quo to improve quality and sustainability and you take smart risks and make tough decisions without agonizing.
Atira strives to hire staff who reflect the women we serve and because this is a program specifically for First Nations, Metis and Inuk women, hiring preference will go to First Nations, Metis and Inuk women.
Additional Requisites/Assets:
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate is an asset
- First Aid plus CPR Certification is required
- Covid-19 & Flu Vaccinations are required, except with
validated exemptions
- Related Degree and or Diploma an asset
- A valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required, and access to a vehicle while on shift.
