**Schedule**
40 hours per week, 8:00am-4:30pm

**Education Level**
Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent. Current Ontario General Carpenter Certificate of
Qualification. A current and valid Ontario General Carpenter certification is required.

**Career Level**
5 years of related experience, inclusive of apprenticeship requirements.

**Job Summary**:
The Carpenter is responsible for maintenance, alteration and small renovation construction of building
components within the campus facilities and buildings.

**Representative Accountabilities**
- Primary Accountabilties:_
- Perform duties of a Licensed Carpenter in Ontario.
- Perform carpentry work for small renovation construction and maintenance projects including but not limited to, laying walls, erecting studding, installing drywall and finishing, and installing acoustic tiles for ceilings.
- Install interior and exterior sheathing, trim, acoustic insulation, re-fitting of windows, doors and building hardware.
- Perform minor roofing and siding repairs, including building envelope caulking and sealing.
- Perform flooring repairs and installation, including baseboards.
- Install suspended ceilings, metal and glass office partitions and other partition components.
- Construct cabinetry, cupboards, shelving, counter tops and other items
- Repair desks, furniture or doors.
- Hang items on walls or other surfaces using a variety of affixing methodologies.
- Perform minor concrete work, including the building of forms.
- Update and maintain information and records.
- General Accountabilities:_
- Operate within established security and safety regulations.
- Remain knowledgeable and current with trade requirements through participation in courses, instructional seminars and trade shows as required and/or sponsored by the University.
- Communicate with fellow workers, faculty, students, staff and visitors in an appropriate and effective manner.
- In a position of trust, perform job assignments in an efficient and effective manner.

**Effort**:

- Required to lift and carry equipment and supplies (up to 50 lbs).
- Required to stand and work on feet for prolonged periods of time.
- Required to work in awkward positions and to work with hands above head for prolonged periods of time.
- Required to concentrate for prolonged periods when performing constructing and carpentry work.

**Working Conditions**:

- Work is conducted in University owned and operated buildings, including mechanical rooms and electrical rooms.
- Work is conducted in a setting with exposure to inclement weather, odours, dust and dirt.
- Exposure to loud noise and vibration from machinery and tools.
- Required to work independently, in teams, alone and/or in isolated work environments.
- Required to work at heights including, but not limited to, 50-foot lifts and swing stages.
- Required to operate a motor vehicle or golf cart for transportation on campus.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment.

**Supervision**:

- May be required to be a day-to-day resource on work procedures to students and casual staff.
