Overnight Frontline Worker

Overnight Frontline Worker is responsible for providing support to program residents while working in collaboration with primary program caseworkers in a transitional housing program setting. **About the Job**: Reporting to the Supervisor of the Edith Mac Men’s Emergency Shelter, the Overnight Frontline Worker will be responsible for providing support to residents within a transitional housing program. This role works in close collaboration with primary program caseworkers to assist individuals facing challenges such as homelessness and poverty. The Overnight Frontline Worker plays a critical role in engaging shelter guests in housing-focused conversations, supporting the development of individualized housing plans, and preparing individuals for housing stability. **General Duties and Responsibilities**: - General responsibilities including shelter welcome packages and welcome files - Providing support to clients facing challenges such as poverty and homelessness - Having intentional housing conversations with shelter guests during their first two weeks - Providing passive housing search materials to those who have been in the shelter for two weeks or less - Creating Individualized Housing Plans with those who have exceeded two weeks in shelter and are receiving more staff attention to operationalize their housing plan - Circulating throughout the facility and engaging with shelter guests, using motivational interviewing techniques and opportunities to engage in housing-focused conversations - Assisting in the Rapid Re-Housing or Permanent Supportive Housing program - Playing a critical role in connecting longer-term shelter guests to Coordinated Entry - Helping those shelter guests eligible for Rapid Re-Housing or Permanent Supportive Housing to become "document ready" so they are imminently houseable should a vacancy become available in the community housing program - Performing other assessments as required (e.g., mental health status exams, wellness checks, etc.) - Performing additional duties as required/delegated **Qualifications**: - Post-secondary education in Social Work, Social Services, Health Services, or equivalent - 1+ years of experience supporting individuals experiencing homelessness - Knowledge of housing-first principles and a strong understanding of homelessness issues, diversity, and anti-discrimination practices - Experience working with vulnerable populations, particularly those at risk of homelessness - Strong communication skills with the ability to assess, manage risk, and de-escalate crises - Familiarity with SDAT, HIFIS, and HTI systems is an asset - Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) - Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle with adequate insurance coverage - Valid First Aid & CPR certification - Training in ASIST and CPI preferred - Vulnerable Screening Level 3 required **Working Conditions and Physical Requirements**: - Overnight Shifts (Monday -Wednesday, alternating Thursday 7:15PM to 7:45AM or alternating Thursday, Friday - Sunday 7:15PM to 7:45AM) with the ability to work excess/overtime hours where required. - Able to work well with internal and external clients - Able to sit for prolonged periods of time - Able to answer and communicate telephone calls and general computer use - Computer screen use (multiple screens if applicable) for prolonged periods of time - Able to lift up to 20lbs (product, documents, etc.) - Travel by vehicle to community sites for client support as required **Ship Values**: Compassion, Hope, Inclusive, Respect, Professional About Us** Services and Housing In the Province (**SHIP**) is a Provincial leader in the broader public sector that builds strategic partnerships and programs that support the fundamental rights for Housing and Health Services throughout the Peel Region, Dufferin County, Region of Waterloo and surrounding areas.
