**Status**
**Position Summary**
**Job Duties/Responsibilities**
In support of student success and quality public education, the Director provides sound leadership that contributes to effective governance, decision making, and the Board of Trustees’ ability to serve within its mandated role as elected officials. Working in support of the Superintendent’s Office, the Director exercises a high degree of critical thinking and political acumen, contributing to the assessment of risks and benefits related to current and emerging issues impacting the Division, public education and the political landscape.
Working collaboratively with and in support of the Superintendent’s Office, the incumbent:
- provides strategic support and counsel to the Superintendent in all facets of governance
- shares critical information with the Superintendent and responds to emerging and time sensitive issues related to the Board of Trustees
- drafts and reviews Board and Caucus Committee reports
- attends all Board and Caucus meetings
- facilitates the development of agendas and speaking notes; coordinates logistics for meetings with trustees
- liaises with internal and external partners, provincial and municipal government agencies as requested by the Superintendent and/or Board of Trustees
- reviews inquiries and determines the appropriate method of follow-up to ensure responsive information is provided in a timely manner
- prepares, coordinates and reviews information and reports for the Board of Trustees relating to matters requiring board action to ensure necessary facts and information are available to support informed decision making
- researches current issues to maintain political awareness and understanding to support the Board of Trustees in carrying out their mandated role as elected officials
- provides ongoing strategic support and counsel to the Board Chair
- serves as a resource to trustees regarding policies, principles, protocols, applicable legislation, and practices related to Board governance and operations
- oversees processes related to requests for information, key messages, speaking notes, correspondence, reports, policy templates or other communication to the Board of Trustees
- provides ongoing guidance and support to Board Committees
- performs tasks related to the election of trustees in accordance with the Local Authorities Election Act on behalf of the Division, including orientation of a new Board of Trustees
- supports the annual Board self-evaluation process
- supports Board orientation and the coordination of Trustee off-site and ad hoc meetings as required
- develops, maintains and implements processes to support the Board of Trustees and administration in engaging meaningfully with Student Senators to discuss ideas and concerns about education, share their perspectives and propose solutions to current challenges
- coaches, mentors and provides leadership to a small team
- responsible for developing and administering budget for the decision unit
**Education/Qualifications**
- an undergraduate degree in a related field such as Political Science, Policy, Social Sciences
- more than 6 years of current and progressively responsible leadership experience and governance experience in the public sector
- awareness and experience with Robert’s Rules of Order and formal meeting protocols
- awareness of parliamentary procedures, legislation and applicable policy
- understanding of the K-12 education sector
- experience with financial management
- demonstrated success in cultivating and maintaining strong working relationships
- demonstrated experience leading and inspiring a team
- excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to efficiently review, edit and create clear and coordinated messaging
- demonstrated success making data-informed decisions in support of continuous improvement
**Rate of Pay**
$5,051.20 - $6,541.50 bi-weekly
