**Overview of role**:
With technology enabling and underpinning everything we do at WestJet, we have undertaken a multi-year journey to evolve and enhance its use across the organization. WestJet is seeking a Specialist - Network & Security Services to drive the transformation of our technology landscape.
As a Specialist - Network & Security Services at WestJet, you’ll operate as a recognized authority within your domain, providing technical leadership and driving the evolution of enterprise grade network connectivity and security controls. This role demands a forward-thinking mindset, deep technical expertise, and a relentless drive for architecting, building, and optimizing secure, scalable, and reliable network solutions.

You must work effectively both individually and collaboratively with people at all levels of the organization. You must be comfortable with change and proactive in identifying and mitigating security risks.
**Key Responsibilities include**:
**Advisory**
- Provide definitive and expert advice in network and security technologies, including VMware NSX-T/NSX-V, Palo Alto NGFW, and Corelight IDS.
- Maintain recognized expert-level knowledge in one or more identifiable specialisms, blending networking and network security expertise.
- Oversee the provision of specialist advice by others, ensuring alignment to security best practices and compliance requirements.
- Consolidate expertise from multiple sources, including third-party experts, to provide coherent advice to further organizational objectives.
- Collaborate with others to ensure advice is appropriate to the organizational needs and security posture.
- Monitor the external environment to gather intelligence on emerging networking and security technologies and evolving threats.
- Provide technical advice to stakeholders and set team-based standards for networking and security tools, platforms, and techniques.
**Solutions**
- Assess and document the impacts, threats, and opportunities to the organization, with an emphasis on security risk assessments and remediation strategies.
- Take ownership of problems and proactively resolve technical and security issues, ensuring solutions meet both business requirements and security standards.
- Architect and deploy secure, scalable network security solutions using technologies such as NSX-T/NSX-V, Palo Alto NGFW, and Corelight IDS.
- Design and implement zero trust network architectures, leveraging micro-segmentation, identity-aware access, and secure access controls to control lateral movement risk.
- Integrate network monitoring and intrusion detection capabilities into the infrastructure to improve system robustness, resilience, and threat visibility.
- Create reports, dashboards, and technology/security roadmaps, sharing knowledge and insights with others.
- Work with operational partners to ensure supportability, maintainability, and security of new features/products, and provide timely technical support and fixes to production systems.
- Coordinate build activities across systems and security components, and support integration and security testing activities.
L**eadership**
- Act as the primary resolver for complex network security issues, including escalation support.
- Provide technical leadership in networking and network security domains, coaching and mentoring team members in secure architecture and best practices.
- Promote knowledge sharing and adoption of secure design patterns.
- Lead workshops, presentations, and training sessions focused on network and security solutions.
- Lead reviews of own work and colleagues’ work to ensure technical and security quality.
- Engage with stakeholders to understand requirements, manage competing priorities, and ensure that security considerations are integrated from inception to delivery.
**Experience and Qualifications**
- Post-secondary education in Information Technology preferred, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- 10+ years of experience working with network and security solutions in an enterprise environment.
- Deep technical knowledge in two or more of the following: Cisco, VMware (NSX-T, NSX-V, VeloCloud), Aruba Wireless, Azure Networking, Infoblox.
- Hands-on experience with Palo Alto next-generation firewalls, including policy design, threat prevention, and Panorama management.
- Experience deploying and managing Corelight IDS or other Zeek-based intrusion detection platforms.
