**The Role**:
CanREA is searching for a highly motivated, and enthusiastic **Technical Writer** to join the team on a part-time, contractual basis. CanREA’s Electricity Transition Hub has an exciting contract opportunity to provide technical research and writing services. This opportunity allows a highly motivated individual to research and compose technical reports on the rapidly changing energy transition taking place around the world. This work will inform Canadian electricity utilities and system operators as they increase levels of wind, solar and energy storage on the grid.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Collaborate with the CanREA Hub Manager to work on writing assignments that incorporate a summary of renewable energy grid integration challenges as articulated by a Canadian electricity utility.
- Leverage preliminary research including reports, webinars, websites, etc. to begin the writing process.
- Produce a 5 to 10 page response to technical, market and regulatory challenges as related to wind, solar, and energy storage integration into the bulk electricity systems across Canada.
- Provide final draft of reports to the Hub Manager for review and final edits.
- Completion of multiple reports (20 to 30 every 3 months) with expectation that each final draft will require 8-10 hours to complete.
- Provide text for newsletter-style reports summarizing trends and research included in the initial challenge reports developed over the previous quarter.
- Additional work opportunities may include summarizing live events and additional, ad hoc writing assignments as needed.

**Qualifications**:
**Requirements**:

- University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, communication or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a technical writer
- The ability to compile and relay technical, regulatory and market information from around the world into easily understood and concise reports.
- Exceptional writing style with the ability to convey complex information to an audience of electricity system professionals at different levels
- Ability to deliver high quality documentation paying attention to detail
- Ability to determine documentation requirements and standards and make plans to deliver on them
- Strong project-management skills with the right blend of assertiveness and flexibility.
- A proven ability to solve problems and make sound decisions independently.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to balance independence with productive teamwork, thanks to your strong work ethic, conscientiousness, planning, time-management skills, organizational abilities, emotional intelligence, and two-way communication skills.
- Work well under pressure, maintaining discretion, tact, good judgement and respect for others, even when moving at top speed or adapting to changing priorities and deadlines.
- Experience working in a remote capacity, and continued ability to do so, is required.

**Assets**:

- Expertise with wind, solar, and energy storage integration challenges with a strong understanding of emerging technologies such as hydrogen electrolysis and fuel cells, non-wires alternatives, smart grids, demand response a valuable asset.
- Experience working with a professional association

**What we offer**:

- 12-month contract from date of signing and opportunity for immediate start
- 65-85 hours per month with options for additional hours during peak periods
- $40-$55/hr. depending on experience
- Fully remote work, must have own home office and computer, internet connection, and phone.
- Potential for contract renewal/extension

Our team has moved to an entirely remote working arrangement. This role has limited requirements for travel.
