Claims Administrator

With pride, Marigold Infrastructure Partners, in collaboration with Colas and Parsons, has been entrusted by the City of Edmonton to oversee the construction of the Valley Line West LRT, spanning 14 kilometers from downtown to Lewis Farms. This ambitious project is now underway and is anticipated to be completed within a timeframe of five to six years.
The Claims Specialist, reporting to the Contracts Manager, will be responsible for maximizing claim opportunities while mitigating claim risks, with a primary focus on upstream activities. Key duties and responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to develop and manage comprehensive claims as necessary.
- Providing guidance to project teams on contractual requirements and potential legal implications.
- Coordinating, managing, and providing support to external counsel and third-party consultants for claim and change resolution.
- Reviewing and analysing contract management records to offer technical advice or project control guidance aimed at minimizing exposure to additional risks.
- Overseeing project change and claim reporting and providing reports to the Commercial Manager for project and/or executive level review.
- Serving as the main point of contact for legal issues on behalf of the project team and liaising with corporate legal as necessary.
- Communicating with other project team members to implement contract management best practices.
- Interpreting contract language to understand risks, rights, and responsibilities and guiding project teams accordingly.
- Assisting in preparing for dispute resolution hearings and other alternative resolution methods meetings.
- Developing transparent systems to track, monitor, and control costs or schedules related to claim resolution.
- Attending construction meetings regularly to identify and monitor opportunities and risks for change management.
- Collaborating with project teams and the Project Controls Director to track and monitor change orders and claims preparation and resolution.
- Developing action plans for resolving unsecured revenue and reviewing/under billing for possible resolutions.
- Working closely with all project disciplines to identify, monitor, and resolve claims and change issues.
**Experience Required**:
- Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering, law, project management, or a relevant field, or five years+ of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Recent construction work experience is essential.
- Strong attention to detail for claim writing in compliance with contracts.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work accurately under pressure.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Adaptability to respond to change.
- Advanced analytical skills.
- Proven ability to take responsibility for a project and follow up until all issues are resolved.
- Comfortable working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Self-starter attitude with a proactive, results-oriented focus, capable of assuming additional responsibilities and multitasking effectively.
