Langley, Canada Stepping Stone Community Services Society Full time

Stepping Stone is hiring a full-time Homeless Outreach Worker to join the Outreach team. Primary responsibilities will be to engage with people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and provide a variety of supports which will help individuals to stabilize their lives. This includes supporting housing searches, accessing available funding, connecting with community resources, housing assistance and follow-up life skills support. The Outreach Worker will be actively involved in preventing homelessness as well as rehousing individuals. Must be a reliable, self-starter committed to connecting people to supports and services. Must be mature and confident to work alone and as part of a team.

**Key Responsibilities**
- To locate people who are in need of support services and who otherwise would not seek assistance.
- To engage with unsheltered homeless individuals; and provide supports which will help them stabilize their lives.
- To connect individuals with income support, including making and accompanying individuals to appointments.
- Provide follow-up supports to ensure individuals have effectively transitioned to housing.
- Connect individuals with health and social service programs and services.
- To provide support with, or information and referrals for, life skills, personal health and hygiene, household management, financial management, crisis intervention and problem solving as well as providing follow up related to these areas.
- Maintain timely statistics regarding all contacts and activities.
- Liaise with community agencies and businesses to fulfill program needs and ensure a smooth flow of information and resources.

**Education, Training and Experience**
- Post-secondary education in social services or related field
- Demonstrated experience working with individuals with serious mental illness, substance use and other complex needs
- Demonstrated experience working at the street level with marginalized people
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Good knowledge of community resources
- Knowledge and experience in de-escalation
- Understand and support harm reduction principles

**Requirement**
- 35 hours a week
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s licence
- Reliable vehicle
- Clear Criminal Record Check
- Ability to function effectively in difficult and /or crisis situations is required
- Current First Aid and CPR
- Naloxone Training

**Remuneration**

$25.00 - $25.46/hour dependent on experience, benefit package after 3 months.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
