**Position: Clinical Counsellor - Child and Youth**
**Start Date: Full-time (35 hours per week) - Indefinite**
**Reports to: Counselling Program Manager**

**Position Summary**
The Child and Youth Clinical Counsellors are primarily responsible for providing counselling services to immigrant and refugee youth presenting with various issues arising from pre and post-migration experiences. The Counsellor is also responsible for all related administrative duties, consultation and liaison with the referring agency and accessing other resources to best assist the client.
**Main Responsibilities**
- Provide informed and culturally responsive short-term mental health interventions for elementary and high school newcomer students, families, and couples presenting with various issues arising from pre and post-migration experiences.
- Provide in-program referral to more intensive intervention services when required
- Work closely with Multicultural Liaison Officers, YOCISO staff and other referral sources to provide crisis intervention services to children, youth, and adults
- Assist in program planning and evaluation
- Make appropriate referrals to other community resources
- Provide accountability through oral and written reports of client progress
- Ensure that the program uses a trauma-informed approach and the tenets of equity, access and anti-racism / anti-oppression
- Promote the OCISO mission and values in all actions
- Demonstrate commitment to OCISO’s culture of respect management approach and anti-racism / anti-oppression policy within the work environment and the community
- Promote intra-agency cooperation, coordination and communication
- Support all aspects of OCISO’s work in interactions with potential funding sources, other community service providers, clients and the public
- Ensure confidentiality and safe handling and storage of client data and files
- Provide support and problem-solving assistance to clients and staff as needed.
**Qualifications**:
- Education and Work Experience_
- Master’s Degree in Counselling, Psychology or Social Work (with clinical experience)
- Two to three years of experience in child, family and couples therapy
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary and multicultural team environment
- Demonstrated ability to work from a clear foundation in the theoretical orientation of the client’s choice as appropriate
- Knowledgeable in alternative nonwestern models of healing that will enhance and expand our culturally relevant counselling services
- Demonstrated ability to incorporate the client’s cultural preferences and culturally appropriate healing practices into the counselling process
- Strong knowledge and understanding of pre and post-migration issues and their impact on the therapeutic alliance and the counselling process
- Demonstrated ability to provide intervention in individual, family, and group settings in house and schools
- Demonstrated ability to effectively report on the client’s therapeutic process in clinical files
- Demonstrated ability to participate in professional case conferences and provide appropriate clinical reports
- Demonstrated ability to provide service statistics
- Demonstrated ability to provide clinical intervention in English is essential, Arabic desirable
- Knowledge of other languages is considered an asset.
- This position requires an equivalent combination of clinical training and experience to that which is standard for full membership in any North American association of professional psychotherapists, namely;_
**_In one core intervention specialty, such as individual, couple, family or group intervention, and from one standard clinical, theoretical orientation (non-western models included): _**
- **_An additional 120 hours of graduate-level training in theory, assessment, intervention and specific issues in that intervention specialty. Additionally, the counsellor should continue receiving supervision and internal or external training to achieve this level of expertise._**:
- **_500 direct intervention hours under qualified clinical supervision for that specialty area_**:
- **_Training in transcultural psychotherapy_**:
- **_Demonstrated clinical success within that specialty designation _**
**_Key Technical Competencies_**
- Excellent knowledge of approaches and techniques using online platforms to deliver services
- Excellent group facilitation skills
- Knowledge of issues and trends impacting area of professional responsibility
- Excellent knowledge of community resources
