**The Role**:
The Canadian Natural Gas Trading Desk is seeking a Trading Analyst to support the trading of physical and financial natural gas as well as provide support to the Canada Sales & Origination Team. This role provides an exciting opportunity for an individual with a commercial mindset and strong analytical skills to play a pivotal role in adding value to the Canadian Trading and Sales & Origination teams.

The Canada Gas Trading team manages a broad geographic portfolio of supply and transportation contracts, storage, and customer business and is an active participant in many different markets via asset and speculative trading activities. The Canada Sales & Origination team manages a diverse portfolio of customers across multiple industries in Canada. The Canada Trading Team will also have a critical role in the LNG Canada value chain, providing feedstock to the plant each day.

Shell is a top tier global energy provider that has Trading Operations throughout the world. The Canadian Natural Gas Trading Desk has daily interactions with Gas and Power Desks located in various offices in the United States and receives regular market updates of activities in Mexico and Brazil. The Trade Desk also has weekly trading/market update meetings with our European Trading groups. This role is based in Calgary and reports to the Head of Natural Gas Trading in Canada.

**Accountabilities**:

- Partner with trade desk to optimize portfolio of assets to maximize value and minimize risk
- Analyze market information and report on implications to trade desk
- Develop, in concert with traders and sales personnel, business and trading strategies
- Reconcile Daily P/L and exposure reports on natural gas positions
- Provide back-up coverage for cash trading
- Review and update all transportation rates in the trade system, execute capacity releases with pipelines
- Support trade execution and deal entry of deals in coordination with Origination and Sales staff
- Collaborate with functional groups within Shell Energy including:

- Accounting, Customer Support, Risk Control, and Gas Scheduling to facilitate the tie-out and settlement processes for daily P/L reporting and exposure reporting
- Records Management
- Credit

**Skills & Requirements**
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in a commodity-based trading environment
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Economics, Business, Finance, Engineering, Mathematics preferred
- Knowledge of data mining, modeling, and data analysis. Specific expertise could include Excel/VBA, database querying/programming/admin, BI reporting services, R, Python, and/or other advanced programming language
- Experience in the Canadian Natural Gas, Power, or Environmental Products Markets
- Commercial mindset
- Strong analytical and problem-solving aptitude
