**The Opportunity - Service Worker, Equine Chores**

This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement, **Job Classification: Service Worker 1 (40)**

The School of Life Science and Business is recruiting a temporary Service Worker I to care for the facilities and the animals within the Equine Reproduction Center along with general farm work beginning as soon as possible, until March 2025. This is a weekend position (Saturdays and Sundays), and approximately 10 hours per week. This position may be renewed with similar terms in subsequent years.

**Key Job Functions**:

- Feeding Pregnant mares and stallions in outdoor pens around 8 AM and 4 PM
- Moving practice herd out to the day pen in the morning and back into the light pen by 4 PM
- Check all waterers at each feeding to ensure they are functioning normally
- Monitor each animal for signs of ill health or injury
- Monitor the condition of the bedding in each pen and add if necessary
- Restocking the hay cart for the next feeding
- Daily care for the stallion in the barn (Joe);
- Clean stall in the morning and pick manure in the afternoon
- Feed and replenish water buckets AM and PM
- Turn out and turn in as directed
- Medical care as directed
- Sweep the barn alleyway
- Clearing snow from doorways and waterer pads in the event of a snowfall
- Dealing with any emergency or unforeseen issue that arises

**Education/Experience/Skills/Knowledge Required**
- In addition they will be able to provide general farm labour and maintenance.
- Highly motivated and organized with the ability to work efficiently and effectively in an unsupervised environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities and to be able to interact effectively with the instructor, the students and the external stakeholders.
- Show a proactive attitude towards safety measures, continuously striving to enhance safety protocols and procedures to ensure the highest standards of protection.

**Conditions of Employment**:

- Work outside of regular College operating hours will be required. The ability to work flexible hours is required.
- Must respect and actively promote health and safety policies.
