The **Event Coordinator** works closely with Nanaimo Foodshare's management team to support our mission of empowering community members with skills, tools, and access to local and nourishing food. The Event Coordinator will represent our organization at special promotional events throughout the city including the distribution of the BC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Coupon Program. By taking part in local events, the Events Coordinator will promote Nanaimo Foodshare programs and share our mission with the community, particularly those unfamiliar with the organization. Responsibilities will include researching events to attend, creating promotional and educational materials for any of our 16 programs as required, engaging with the public at events, and designing event-specific activities.

For the BC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Coupon Program, the Events Coordinator will help to promote the coupon program, recruit, and confirm participants, organize and track coupon distribution, attend weekly markets to distribute coupons. They will develop and present educational materials and activities about fresh locally grown produce and nutrition. These materials and activities will be offered to families, 2SLGBTQIA+, youth, newcomers to Canada, and seniors taking part in the coupon program. The role includes collecting data for reporting and completing reports. The Event Coordinator will gain experience working with diverse groups, including individuals with disabilities, youth, newcomers to Canada, seniors, families, and volunteers. There is an opportunity to continue attending the Farmer’s Market through September if school scheduling allows. The coordinator will refine personal communication skills through program facilitation, educational demonstrations, and public engagement at events. Leadership and teamwork skills will be developed through engaging in collaborative activities with volunteers, program participants, and community members. Activities will be varied, and focus on food security, environmental protection, and local food access.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 9 weeks

Pay: $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 per week
