**Job Title: Mental Health Support Coach**
**Location: All sites / Virtual**
**Schedule: Full-time (35 hours per week)**
**Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm**
**Reports To: Sr. Program Coordinator**
This role involves providing one-on-one brief support counseling and needs assessments to clients, to identify and address their short-term and long-term needs through personalized support plans and appropriate referrals. The **Mental Health Support Coach**will deliver crisis intervention, mental health support, and case management while working closely with instructors, settlement information specialists, and community organizations to facilitate workshops and build strong partnerships. Additionally, the role requires active engagement with community health providers, internal staff, and external networks to ensure comprehensive client support. Strong assessment, crisis intervention, facilitation, and relationship-building skills, along with knowledge of mental health policies and community resources, are essential for success in this position.
**These are your responsibilities**:
- Provide one-on-one brief support counseling to clients in Centre for Skills programs and services and to those referred.
- Provide needs assessment to newcomer clients, identify short-term and long-term needs and provide a working plan to facilitate and assist to suitable internal and external referrals.
- Develop a plan of support and goals that are aligned with a client-centered approach.
- Develop supportive alliance with clients by providing supportive counselling in the areas of mental health, substance abuse, suicide risk, grief, crisis intervention, trauma, and other issues.
- Provide crisis intervention and exercise good judgment in emergency and/or crisis situations, and follow-up post crisis.
- Using a client-centered approach, research appropriate resources and referrals for clients within a community support network on behalf of clients in association with their community support network
- Work closely with instructors, settlement team members and the Community Connections team to develop and facilitate group workshops, presentations and information sessions.
- Establish, develop and nurture community partnerships in the areas of wellbeing, mental health and newcomer support.
- Promote Centre for Skills Development services by attending community events and partnership meetings.
- Build and maintain close collaborative working relationships with other healthcare professionals and community support networks throughout Halton region.
- Work closely with program managers and the settlement team to meet overall program funding targets.
- Provide accurate and timely reporting, including monthly statistics, success stories and narratives.
- Attend and participate in staff and department meetings, as well as other meetings and workshops as required.
- Help to provide innovative program development that encourages open communication and engagement related to mental health and wellbeing across Centre for Skills.
**What you need to bring to this job**:
- Experience in working with adults from culturally and socio-economically diverse backgrounds and awareness of issues and challenges facing newcomers.
- Sensitivity and understanding of persons of diverse cultural backgrounds demonstrating extensive experience in working with Newcomers in a multicultural environment.
- Knowledge of major mental illnesses including signs and symptoms.
- Knowledge of case management including, local resources and access to services.
- Excellent assessment skills and crisis intervention skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong time management skills and ability to work under pressure.
- Create a safe, comfortable environment for clients.
- Ability to engage and build rapport with clients from various cultures, generations and social-economic backgrounds.
