Currently, our Equipment performance division has a Civil Maintainer I - Insulator opportunity. The Equipment Performance division at Bruce Power focuses on maintaining and improving the performance of equipment through various initiatives and oversight.
The Civil Maintainer I is accountable for maintaining, renovating, and erecting buildings or similar structures. It includes fabricating or repairing items made of wood, sheet metal, masonry, and pipes, as well as designing, erecting, and dismantling various types of scaffolds. The role requires proficiency in operating and using power tools, equipment, and hand tools related to building trades. Additionally, it involves understanding rigging procedures, equipment, and craning techniques, as well as tools and equipment associated with scaffolding.
This is a permanent, full-time position which offers a competitive benefits, compensation and pension package and is located on site in Tiverton, Ontario.

What will you be responsible for?
- Install, modify, and remove insulation materials on pipes, ducts, and other mechanical systems.
- Perform asbestos abatement and insulation removal following safety protocols.
- Fabricate and install sheet metal cladding and other protective coverings.
- Carry out good housekeeping and fire prevention practices in the performance of the work.
- Complete hazard identification and safe job planning prior to executing work.
- May be required to work from heights, in confined spaces, in environments containing respiratory, radiological, chemical, electrical, and mechanical hazards.
- This work may be performed on a twelve-hour, rotating shift schedule.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
- Safety-focused mindset
- Understands, operates, and uses power tools, equipment, and hand tools related to the building trades.
- Knowledge of asbestos handling and abatement procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and oral instructions.
- Working knowledge of station housekeeping and material storage standards.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of the strength of materials used in insulation and their thermal properties.
- Familiar with rigging techniques and has an understanding of the use of various types of hoisting devices.
- Qualified as an Asbestos Abatement Worker with knowledge and experience in asbestos handling.
- Able to demonstrate that the individual values the role and is committed to it.
Education and Experience
- Experience in asbestos handling and abatement.
- Experience in insulation installation and removal.
- Experience in sheet metal/cladding installation and fabrication.
- Considered an asset:
- Holding more than one Certificate and/or experience in any of the following trades: carpentry, plastering, bricklaying, masonry, painting, plumbing, tinsmithing, roofing, concreting, and all types of scaffolding.
- Work experience in a Power Generation Facility and/or previous industrial construction experience.
