General Labourer

**Job Title**: Crew Laborer I

**Position Description**:
This is an entry-level position that performs variety of manual tasks on construction sites.

**Place of Work and Hours**:
All work starts from our shop office or from Transit Center. You are required to make it too and from for all workdays.

General hours of operation are from Monday to Friday from about 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. Some weekend and overtime work is required.

**Major Areas of Responsibility**:

- Remove construction garbage from site
- Assist other staff with site project
- Report unsafe work conditions to supervisor
- Sweep and/or Scrape floors
- Move good material
- Vacuuming of houses
- Assist with other jobs as needed
- Able to follow companies Mission and Values

**Primary Objectives**:

- Always work safe
- Work as fast as possible
- Use a quality eye when cleaning

**Specific Responsibilities of the Job**:
**Remove Construction Garbage from Site**
- At each site you will pick up leftover dimensional lumber. You will also pick up shingle bits, siding bits, drywall bits, nails, cigarette butts, coffee cups, paper, and plastic. Larger piles of shingles, siding, drywall will be up to the discretion of the supervisor.
- Garbage will be place in the trailer or in the bags/bins onsite.
- Some sites will require the garage to be cleaned and swept/scraped.

**Assist other staff with site project**:

- Assist with picking up larger objects
- Use dustpan to help get dust from floor
- Tarp the trailer when leaving
- Assist at the dump with the trailer

**Report unsafe work conditions to supervisor**
- Report if site changes while working on it. Machines have move onto the site, people start throwing out garbage from windows.
- Help with site assessment when first arriving

**Sweep and/or scrape floors**
- Quick Sweep Garages of dust and dirt
- Final Sweep of Garages, detailed sweep of edges, stairs and scrape floor and stairs if needed.
- Sweep verandas, sidewalks, driveways, decks or anything else the supervisor tells you.
- Sweep around trailer if spills from loading.

**Move Good Material**
- Move and organize dimensional lumber

**Vacuuming of Houses**
- Sweep or Vacuum Houses between construction stages
- Remove garbage from inside house
- Scrape floor as required

**Assist with other jobs as needed**
- Assisted with other jobs like moving walkways, move material to and from other sites.
- Snow Shoveling
- Grass Maintenance
- Pressure wash garages, driveways, Veranda’s, Siding on houses
- Other odd jobs as they come about

**Able to follow companies Mission and Values**

**Job Requirements**:

- General Knowledge of House Construction
- Good use of the English language
- Physical fit. Able to life 40 pounds over head
- Able to follow instructions from Supervisors
- Positive attitude

**Education and Experience**
- No experience required
- First Aid an asset but not required
- WHMIS an asset but not required
- Drivers Licence an asset but not required

**Physical Demands**:
While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

**Work Environment**:
As this job is preformed out in the elements, weather conditions may be a factor.

There are moving vehicles and mechanical machines all around. The noise level is usually quite to moderate.

**Compensation**:
Hourlywage between 17.00 and 19.00 per hour.
