Group Fitness Instructor, Ajax/Pickering

(Part-Time Up to 20 Hours / Per Week)

At Community Care Durham (CCD), coordinated networks of volunteers and inter-professional staff, working out of integrated community hubs and other locations, strive to enrich the well-being and quality of life for people wherever they choose to call home. As the largest community support services agency in Durham Region, CCD collaborates with its partners and the broader community to address community issues and support local citizens to achieve their goals to live independently.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Exercise and Falls Prevention, the Group Fitness Instructor will lead online and/or in-person exercise classes, providing instruction and guidance to class participants.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Actively leads exercise classes, including aid to individual class participants, form corrections, exercise modifications, and promotion of guidelines for safe participation;
- Sets up of physical class environment (chairs, equipment, etc.), and cleaning of exercise equipment in some service locations;
- Provides First aid and CPR assistance if/when required;
- Promptly submits class attendance to Supervisor, Exercise and Falls Prevention.

Qualifications required:

- Specialized training and certification/registration in various fitness and wellness programming, including Group Exercise
- Current Emergency First Aid Certificate CPR C & AED
- Experience working with seniors
- Experience leading exercise/fitness classes
- Experience working with individuals with cognitive impairments including but not limited to: Dementia, Alzheimer’s Disease, and age-related cognitive decline an asset
- Autonomy and interpersonal skills with ability to communicate with clients, colleagues, supervisors, location staff and other healthcare professionals
- Knowledge and understanding of human anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and how common injuries and/or surgeries may affect mobility
- Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check
- Must work in a safe manner and promote the health and safety of all staff, volunteers, clients and the community as outlined within CCD policies
- Instructors are required to be certified in various fitness and wellness programming from various certifying bodies including but not limited to:

- CAN FIT Pro
- CSEP
- ACE
- Various Yoga certifying bodies
- Zumba Fitness
- Nordic Pole Walking
- College of Kinesiologists of Ontario
- Registered Physiotherapists

Compensation: $25 per hour; with 6% vacation pay

**Job Type**: Part-time

Expected hours: No more than 20 per week

Work Location: In person
