Working with a team led by the _Supervisor, Food Services,_ the _Program Assistant_ is responsible for supporting operational and administrative functions delivering Client service. The incumbent will work across the food programs in the Meals on Wheels office, kitchen, and meal heating and preparation including Adult Day Program (ADP) and the Better Bistro (in-house café).
- Post-secondary education in a social/food service, gerontology or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Minimum of one (1) year related work experience in Home and Community Care office setting and/or comparable experience
- Experience in food preparation
- Drivers’ license an asset
- Successful completion of Food Handling Training course within one month of employment
- Manage multiple administrative responsibilities through strong organizational, prioritization and time management skills
- Work independently and in a high volume team environment
- Effectively utilize electronic Client records to support the delivery of care
- Demonstrate working knowledge of Microsoft Office; knowledge of Alayacare an asset
- Work in a supportive manner with Clients, Members, Caregivers, and volunteers in order to effectively respond to the needs of Clients, using excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrate strong documentation skills
- Successful completion of _Vulnerable Sector Screening _within one month of employment

**Position-Specific Responsibilities**

**Meals on Wheels**:

- Ensures hot meals prepared and packed
- Communicates with clients and utilizes the client database to document changes
- Prepares for the daily meal delivery and volunteer routes including route sheets, maps, instructions, and cold delivery items
- Supports and prepares volunteers for the daily delivery
- Provides telephone support for the Food Services Supervisor
- Ensures organization and correct storage of frozen product
- Prepares orders for food source
- Assists with direct service when required
- Takes on other duties as assigned by the Food Services Supervisor

**Kitchen/Bistro**:

- Carries out routine kitchen tasks on a daily basis while maintaining a clean working environment,
- Assists in the preparation of food for the Better Bistro and Adult Day Program and catering requests as required,
- Assists in serving members and clients within the Better Bistro and ADP environment
- Assists in the planning, monitoring and ordering of food inventory
- Assist in the training, monitoring and supervision of volunteers in the kitchen and Better Bistro
- Assist with tracking Bistro finances daily using the cash register system, including accepting payment and balancing end of day

**Salary** commensurate with qualifications and experience.

**Working hours**:

- We have two positions available; when applying, you can indicate your preference for: Position 1: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am - 12:30 pm

Position 2: Monday to Friday, 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
- Must be available to work occasional weekends and flexibility to work extra hours

**Job Type**: Part-time
